Hello Everyone!
Today is Tablescape Tuesday hosted
by Susan at Between Naps on the Porch.
Visit her blog for a full list of participants.
After the holidays were over I was craving
a soothing palette after all the bright colors.
I went with a soft sage and gold.
Are you wondering why I used buttermillk in my title?
I have included a pie recipe. Click any photo for more details.
I found a tablecloth in a damask at BB& Beyond.
It's spill resistant. That should come in handy.
The placemats are from Ross. The napkins and beaded rings are from BB& Beyond.
I found him at the Cracker Barrel gift shop.
I used some sugared fruit and a Colonial candle.
We made buttermilk pie on Sunday and it is delish. You will love this recipe!
Um... Does anyone see a white mouse?
It's Chestnut's new toy and it's in the photo.
Here's a photo of the recipe card.
I hope everyone is having a lovely 09' so far.I'm off to enjoy a piece of pie and cup of coffee.

Hi Melissa, This is so pretty. Love the napkins and napkin rings! You did another outstanding job! I wish I had more stuff to do a tablescape with, but I just have one set of dishes we use all the time.
I got on Micasa but it is really slow. I might upload some pics sometime. They really need to work on speeding it up! Talk to you soon. Kristen
So pretty and inviting, Melissa! The pie looks yummy! There goes my first resolution and we're only into the 5th day of the new year! :(
Carol
Oh Melissa! Your tablescape is so pretty. Yes, the pastels are nice after all of the holiday colors. And I love the rooster tea bag rest! Your recipe for buttermilk pie sounds yummy! I enlarged the picture to find Chestnut's mouse. That's funny! I keep the kitty's toys in a little basket and they fish them out in the middle of the night and play with them. lol Have a great evening!...Debbie
I love your tablescape, Melissa! It looks so inviting and comfy. The perfect place for girlfriends to spend the morning chatting.

Beautiful table setting, Melissa! I especially love those napkins and table cloth....Christine
Looks BEAUTIFUL! WOW! Your decorating is so inspiring!!!
Buttermilk pie is one of my favorites. In fact, when Dirk's (my husband) grandmother was living, she would bake me a buttermilk pie every time we would go visit them which was every Sunday. She'd make me one for me to take back home. I haven't had one in several years. I am going to print this recipe out and try making it myself. Thanks so much for being an inspiration to me tonight! Loved this post!
Yummm. My mom used to make buttermilk pies & I haven't thought about them in years. Thanks for the memories! ♥
Diane
ps Great job on your tablescape. Hmmm, where did you say you keep the centerpiece jar???
Love the center piece. Great idea on that recipe card. mishelle
Just beautiful Mellisa! I love everything about your table, I wish I could do one of these, maybe someday, like Kristen I dont have that much dishes but I may just use those I have and join in!
I love your table. You are so creative:D
Loving everything...table certainly invites you in.
It's beautiful, Melissa!
The pie looks delicious. Thanks for the recipe!
What a coninkydink..the word verfication is dishyd!
Melissa,
How beautiful!
That's what I need to find - a table cloth that is spillproof - gotta love my hubby but BOY is he hard on my tablecloths! Guess it is a military thing - he is such a fast eater that he often doesn't watch to see the food flying ~smile~
Thanks for your sweet comment yesterday. First off ((hugs)) to you! I can so relate to what you are going through with your move. My husband is now retired military, but I will always remember the struggle of being a military wife! I marreid him later in his military career, and didn't have to travel anywhere, but I have been through many deployments and they are so TOUGH! My heart goes out to you - Keep us posted on your progress. I hope your house sells quick for you - have you thought about renting it out? It might be better in this tough economy to hold onto it till prices start going down a bit and people are buying again.
Blessings to you,
Kymber
Gorgeous table setting Melissa! Your pie recipe looks yummy.
Smiles,
Carol
I love the names you used - soft sage, gold, and buttermilk. Yummy! I admit I was looking forward to what color buttermilk would be, though. The pie is a good substitute for a tablescape color. I've never tasted Buttermilk pie before. Does it taste like a custard pie?
I love the centerpiece jar you used. It is gorgeous and gives the table an exotic, Asian flavor. The red flower on the jar really goes well with your wall color, too.
Have a good week!
Awesome... I love it, so comfortable... And thanks for the recipe! My favorite pie and always looking for a good recipe!
Hugs and blessings in 2009,
Yvette
Your table is lovely and I love how everything looks so soft and pretty!! Makes me want to jurry spring along - I'm so not a fan of cold weather and today makes me want warm weather even more!!
Hi Melissa! Your table is beautiful! I love the full look of it! You've got the touch, sweetness! The green glasses pop here! The pie looks and sounds so good!

Oh Melissa, that table is one of my favorites. It has such charm & color w/out being too bright. That jar is incredible!
Everything you do is simple beautiful, Melissa.
I hope you aren't sick of awards because I just gave you another one. Go check it out!
Donna
I found the mouse! He won't eat much ;D I love your napkins and that center piece. I'm coveting your ice tea glasses. You are right, this is a nice soothing table after all of the bright sparkles of Christmas. Well done!
(and your house is gorgeous too!)
The table is so pretty! I double clicked to see that canister in the middle of the table. It's breath taking!!
Love buttermilk pie too. My dad is the one in our family who makes them...two at every event.
Great table & a bonus recipe...It's a good day!

Melissa, that is a beautiful setting! Pie looks delish! Nancy
Very pretty! I like the soft color palette, especially the different colored glasses.
Hi Melissa! Your table looks beautiful and refreshing! I love that ceramic piece in the middle, very pretty. Also the deep red & gold walls in the kitchen are so rich looking. The pie looks great, not too difficult of a recipe - just my type! I had to blow up the picture when you mentioned something about a mouse..was wondering what the heck you were refering to - but I think I saw a little white thing on the floor near the dining room..? so cute - those darn "kids" are always leaving their toys everywhere! ;) as to my posting problem...sigh, I just want to tear my hair out! I am so frustrated! I try every chance I get to upload...I have defragmented the computer, cleaned up any free space, rebooted...don't know what else I can do! That's why I was happy to read that others were having the same problem, cuz' I was ready to toss my computee' out the window! It says my blog ID is blank...? whatever that means! I can post words, just won't upload the pix. The only good thing is that since I took my pictures to post last week, things have already changed a bit in the house (oops! hit some sales!) so I guess it's good I didn't post as they would already be outdated! see, a bright side! I promise to keep trying...but now I just get to visit everyone else's. :) Take care. ~ Laurie
Hi Melissa, Glad you like the green vases. Hubby thought they looked good, but he doesn't really count. lol! It's good to get others (who decorate) opinions and reasurance.
Yes, I am going to change my header as soon as Kevin will help me. I have no clue how to do it and would be scared I would delete my whole blog. I read that Chari had alot of trouble. The last one Kevin changed was pretty easy, so I hope I don't have any problems. Talk to you soon,Kristen
I passed on an award to you!
Melissa, you gals just blow me out of the water with your tablescapes.
Lovely dishes and tablescape.
Blossom

You have a beautiful home!! Martha Stewart has NOTHING on you!
Do a heart - it is so you!! I'll post it as soon as it's available - just let me know!
It looks beautiful and so inviting. I LOVE the jar!
Melissa, this is beautiful! Love the plaid napkins and the tablecloth is beautiful...as are the placemats. Your centerpiece is gorgeous. It is so nice to see these softer colors for a change. Thanks for a great TT post. And thanks for the yummy recipe...I want to try that one! Susan
great shots...each one lets us see a special surprise :) i am really loving the color, & great play of textures too! (love the rooster)
Good Morning, Melissa..it's me again. :)
I was enlarging your beautiful Tablescape pictures and noticed the beautiful gold "quilted" looking candle on the black stand in the corner. So unusual. Where did you find that?
You asked about my "D" mug. Yes! My dd gave it to me Christmas morning (and a "D" one to my mother for our morning coffee). I had admired hers ~"E". They are so fun, aren't they? She got it at the Anthropologie in Chicago.
Good morning Melissa :)
You did a beautiful job with this tablescape! It's so cheerful :)
Thank you for the pie recipe!!
xo,
rue
Hi Melissa, it's nice to "meet" you as well. Thanks for the compliment. We did have a wonderful time at the shower and it was so much fun putting it all together. I'm still trying to figure out how to edit my photos and add elements to my blog. As soon as I do I promise it will get better. My pictures just aren't coming out as clear as they really are. I welcome any advice. Guess I'm going to have to find a blogging for dummies book!! Hope you have a good and productive day as well! Elizabeth
Hey Melissa - I've got my profile set so you can email me - if you get a minute - send me an email to my personal account. I have a quick question for you!!
Thanks for the encouraging words. I'm a little computer illiterate myself. I learned a lot building my web site, but that format is completely different than the blogging format. I don't know why they can't just make everything computer related the same. Sometimes I'm able to figure things out, but then I can't remember how I did it. The books you saw peeking out are some really neat devotion books I found at a bookware house several years ago. The author is Pam Vredevelt (nope, I didn't get my fingers on the wrong keys, that's really the way you spell it). One is Expresso for Your Spirit:Hope and Humor for Pooped Out Parents and the other is Espresso for a Woman's Spirit:Encouraging Stories of Hope and Humor. She's written other books as well, but the only other one I've read is Angel Behind the Rocking Chair: Stories of Hope in Unexpected Places. I'm sure you can find them on Ebay or somewhere. I've enjoyed them and re-read the Espresso books. As for the "Southern" napkins, you can find them in any gift shop or boutique, but being the bargin shopper that I am I buy them at Tuesday Morning, T.J. Maxx, Marshall's, Home Goods and occasionally at Old Time Pottery. They are very affordable there and I always stock up. You'll definately have to look for them. It's good retail theraphy because it won't break the bank!
How pretty! I love your napkins! and that pie looks delicious!Your color scheme is so warm and inviting! Great job!
Im not sure how blogger has managed to wipe me off your bloggers follow list...but im still here!
Hello Melissa, thank you so much for stopping by, your tablescape is beautiful but oh do I ever love Chestnut!!!

Thanks for your compliments on the trees! I love them and Target!!
I was a HUGE Sex and the City fan as well. I miss that show terribly sometimes and things like Lipstick Jungle get me through. I sometimes pop in a dvd of an old season or watch episodes OnDemand.
The movie didn't measure up in my opinon either, but I would defintiely go see it if they made another one. HA :)
Hello Girlfriend...
Just checked my blog and found the sweet, sweet note that you left! Thank you so much...your love and prayers have definitely been felt!!! I have met so many dear people here in blogland (and RMS)...it never seizes to amaze me of the love and support that is always offered! You're just the sweetest and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support!!!
I am finally getting a chance to rest a bit...of course, it's been so hectic. It really is overwhelming at times! I feel for you with having aging parents as well...but the Lord always gives us the strength to do what is needed! We just take one day at a time, right?
Well my friend, you have certainly set another beautiful table!!! I just love that beautiful canister that you used for the centerpiece! Oh yes, and buttermilk pie...is the best!!! Hehe!!!
Thank you again, Sweetie! I sure do appreciate our friendship!
Love ya,
Chari
Oh yes, we've had buttermile pie. We normally make Bisquick's Buttermilk pie and it is delish. Served with fresh fruit, yum, yum. My mom serves it with canned pineapple. Very yummy too.
Blessings,
Sher
Send me over a piece of the pie. Your table looks beautiful

Melissa, Your pie looks and sounds wonderful. Would you believe I have never heard of it, nor has anyone every make one that I know of. This has to be a Southern Living special dessert. I'll have to ask the good cooks I know. Your table settings are out of this world. I am at the giving away stage now. I find I have too much of everything and need to purge.
Was it hard for you to set up your blog ? I spoke with the lady and she said I would just have to put a background under my existing blog. There is so much wasted space on the sides of mine that I don't use. Like others, I am afraid I will send my blog to never neverland if I attempt it.
Love your sage color very much.
Hi Melissa, I was tickled pink that you visited theVintageNest. I am afraid it's too late to get in today's pink Saturday because Beverly, our hostess, is away but next week is just fine. We would be thrilled to have you. And you don't have to have any pink at all. My pink photo today is one I took on Christmas vacation. Just scoot over to Beverly's blog (on my sidebar) and leave her a comment or email her by Wednesday. :) I love buttermilk pie. There is a little country restaurant out here that makes the BEST! Warm hugs, Lynn
P.S. Your tablescape is so pretty.
Oh you would be a "great" addition to Pink Saturday. I'm glad you got the right info.. It is just the most fun to meet new people.. hope all is well this a.m.
hugs ~lynne~
Beautiful tablescape and oh my the pie! Looks wonderful - thanks for the recipe!
Hi Melissa!
Thanks for coming by & your sweet comment on my header picture. I made the topiaries on the sideboard a few years ago. ☺
Diane
What a lovely table!!! I love buttermilk pie! It looks like I could just pull up a chair and sit down! : )
Melissa, I'm a bit late for the "Tablescape Tuesday" party, but you did an awesome job. I love the colors of the setting and the centerpiece is beautiful. Everything is very pretty, as usual. Thanks for your prayers for my friend!
Hi Melissa!
I bought 2 red clay pots at a garden center for the topiaries & painted them copper. The topiary is a styrofoam cone with moss glued & pinned on. Then I wound a thin copper ribbon around the moss form. The trunk is a branch cut off a tree & split in two. ♥

Hi Melissa, What a great idea to do an anniversary frame! When I read that some ideas popped in my head! Good thinking!!If you come up with any other ideas let me know!! I appreciate your input! Kristen
Thanks for the visit today!!! Have a blessed Sunday...
Jan
Yes,I have thought about a boy and girl frame. I will be making those soon!
I have not thought about the initials!! Another great idea! I have painted initials for little girl's rooms on canvas and am planning on doing a few of those this week. I use lots of ribbons, rhinestones, 3d embellishments, etc. They have turned out pretty cute.
You've got me thinking about a blogger frame..... I'm going to give this some thought!! Thank you so much for your ideas!! Kristen
This really is adorable! Susan, I'm wishing you a very Happy Sunday! I know I posted on this before, but I didn't want the week to go by without me wishing you many blessings...
XO,
Sheila :-)
102 comments???!!!!!!! I'm always amazed at how many comments you get Melissa! Thanks for all the nice comments you have left on my blog. I have been so busy during the holidays I didn't get a chance to respond, but wanted to let you know they were all read & very much appreciated!! Have a great 2009!
Forgot to tell you that yes, you did see my DD's bedroom on RMS.
Melissa, thanks for swinging by today. I'm telling you I was one "excited" gal.. :-) I hope you're having a super W/k.
hugs ~lynne~
Melisa, I would love to join your Tues luncheons, but I don't seem to cook anymore. My girls are all away now, and cooking for one gets to be boring. When my husband was alive he ate non stop (and was still in good shape, too). I find I go from a late breakfast, to a large dinner which is not the best idea, either.
So I thank you anyway and I shall enjoy your lunches by computer.
Your home is so lovely !
Melissa, honestly,I have never had the pleasure of dining at a table set as pretty as this.I am proud to say I have the same glasses though.I'm glad your dh was home to help with the frozen pipe trouble. We had some freezing issues this winter too and I was happy mine was home,I don't like to even think about how I would manage here without him.Cyndi
Your tables are beautiful! What a fun post!
