M Is For Mums

Hello Everyone!
Fall is in the air here in North Carolina
and I've gone Mum crazy. I just adore this
time of year and the warm colors and crisp air.
We are having lows in the 50's tonight. Yay!
Join me on a tour of our porches front and back.
I wanted to give you another update on my heathy
eating plan and B/P meds. It's going fantastic and I
feel so much better I can hardly believe it!
Some of you may have wondered how I lost 13 pds
so quickly and I should have explained further.
One of my new B/P meds is also a water reduction
pill hence the rapid loss in only two weeks time.
I knew it would start to slow down and it has.
My stats as of today 3 weeks in.
Total pounds lost-14, B/P- 100/67
I plan to increase my workout plan to include weights.
Plus continue walking and healthy eating.
No extra salt, sugar or caffeine.
I haven't had a diet soda or coffee in 3 weeks.
Thanks again for all your encouragement.
I love initials and my outdoor M flags in black.
I have three of these placed around the yard.
The welcoming pathway.
The front porch and yellow mums.
They are lush and extra full this year.
I noticed the grass has just a hint of looking a
pale green shade as cooler weather approaches.
The swag Kristen made says welcome.
Look at this huge yellow pot.
Another look at the vibrant yellows.
I have not used the yellow color before
and I love the look against our red brick.
The fern contined to flourish this summer.
It's really huge!
The yellow cushions match the new mums.
The back deck has new mums too.
I chose a warmer red and deep pinks for variety.
I had never seen the pink mums before.
Another pink mum in a black urn.
They have little yellow centers.
I had to show you our sweet hummingbirds.
They were a little family of four that perched in our
pear trees and fed all day long all summer long.
They jabbered at each other over the liquid
food and we were thoroughly amused by them.
They just left a few weeks ago to head South.
We miss them.
My hubby was sitting in the chair below and
was able to capture these fun photos of one.
They were not afraid of us at all!
All photos enlarge if you want to see the details.
Look at those tiny baby claws.
Goodbye hummingbird! Come back next spring!
We are pretty sure that this is their little nest.
It's so tiny we can't imagine what else it could be.
Does anyone know? We left it for them for next year.
Happy fall ya'll!

I love that you've expanded your monograms to the exterior of your home as well, Melissa! : ) I really like that banner.

So glad to hear you are doing so well. Definitely, keep up with your walks and healthy eating. Sometimes it can get a little disheartening when it starts going a little slower, but ultimately, you will be so glad you stuck with it and did what you needed to do!

There is no surprise that the outside of your home is as beautiful as your inside. Love the mums, ferns, humming bird, and fat cat! HA!

Congrats on your weight loss so far... good for you taking better care of yourself. You inspire me. I so need to lay off the Diet Coke, I just had one because of a bad headache. I will try harder tomorrow. P.S. stop by my blog it misses you and I have some halloween up and more to come by Friday. Take care, JenGlamGirl

Hi Melissa!!

I am so happy and proud of you for your dedication in turning your health problems around!! I wish we lived closer, I could use a walking partner!!

Your home is as lovely outside as it is inside. I enjoyed these pictures. I chose yellow mums for the lakehouse too, as it is blue and we all know about blue & yellows!! lol!! Not sure what I will use here..

I love all of your ferns too! They are one of my favorite plants. I just brought mine in for the winter. It is getting down to 40 degrees at night already. And out leaves are finally changing!!

How I love those hummingbirds. How lucky you are to have them!! I read that their wings beat 95 times per second!! Amazing! That is how they look like they are standing still, I guess...

Have a happy week, Melissa!!

I was thinking about you.....good for you for sticking with your plan.....14 lbs is terrific, and I am so proud of you...no coffee for 3 weeks...I've not done THAT well. But I am losing slowly too.....so let's be accountable to each other, ok? Keep up the good work, and your outside front looks fabulous. I need to get started on mine!

I am so happy you have your blood pressure under control. And to lose the weight, that is great.

Your home is so lovely whether inside or out. The mums do say fall and and particularly like the pink ones. I love initials, words, quotes, etc., as well. Down in the south we say - Happy Fall Yall - but I am sure you remember that from living here.

Melissa, so glad you are doing well! 14 lbs is great! It's all that healthy eating.:)
I'm a mum lover too. They are just so show-y! And they are the flower for November b'days.Yeah!
The "M" flag is just perfect in your yard. I was driving around McKinney the other day and saw one real similar to yours and ,I kid you not, I stopped to have a closer look. LOL! They probably thought I was looking at their house.NOT! It was an adorable house but I was scoping their cute as a bug flag!

Everything looks so nice around your house. I can't get enough of mums this time of year. The walkway to your front door is unique. I like that you can mow right over it. Things are looking great!

Hi Melissa, so glad things are going well for you with the change in diet. I love your front porch. It's so welcoming, I feel like I could just pop on over and knock on that door, I know there'd be a big hug waiting for me as you opened the door:) Your 'mum's are beautiful. I have yet to buy any, they seem slow at getting them out at the store this year? They are out but not many yet so I've been holding off.
We had hummingbirds too this year, I love them. My sister was enthralled by them when she came to visit from England.
Have a lovely evening, I'm off to watch TV ;)

Hi Melissa, your yard looks beautiful with the yellow mums! They really do look great against the red brick. Your "M" flag is pretty too, I've never seen that particular one with the black background. Your deck looks wonderful with the purple mums and the hummingbirds are adorable! I keep looking for mine, but I think they might finally be gone. I enjoyed them so much.

I can't believe you haven't had any caffine in 3 weeks, way to go! The bp meds are lowering my bp too. Mine was 80 over 68 the other day, but I took it later and it was 116 over 69 I believe. I go to the dr. tomorrow for a 2 wk checkup. I'm glad because I have an awful sore throat!! It has been killing me all day. Talk to you soon, Kristen

Hi girl! I'm so glad you are feeling better. I think that doing without cokes and coffee would be harder than food! Honestly.

Your mums are beautiful. Your whole porch is so welcoming and southern looking. I love it!

Hi Melissa, So many things to comment on today....first congrats on your health progress. One question though from me: What does your doc consider to be HBP? Your numbers are very LOW....so what does your dr. say is high? I was told 135/85 is the lowest limit for 'border line' HBP...so I'm kunfoozed! Set me straight on this when you get a sec, please.

Next, your mums.....one just has to love such a last attempt for Mother Nature to make us smile with their brilliance before her winter's nap! I love the bright yellow the best and like you, have slowly begun to add new colors. This year, I did something different by adding lots of LITTLE yellow mum pots in the garden itself. Money also was a dictator this year. I haven't added my pansies or decorative cabbage yet....maybe next week, next paycheck.

The hummers! I cannot believe how still of a shot you captured of them hummin' away! I had to resort to a video and will post that soon on my blog. Amazing how friendly they are once they know that you are their friends and source of food to fly (further) south of the Carolinas.

Yes, that's a hummingbird next alright....for whatever reason, two have dropped out of our trees and we have saved them and I use them as part of my SPRING decor. They are precious and rare, so hang on to them if they drop from the trees. Little kids get a big kick out of them too.

Happy Autumn and keep up the great work (on yourself and your blog).

Blessings from your South Carolinian bloggin' friend,

Roz

I'm proud of you, Melissa! That's great about your new health plan working so well.

I love your mums... I wish I could get them to live, but they don't like me. LOL!

Love what you did with yours and your monogram flag...

XO,

Sheila... who finally has her computer! YEA!

Your home is amazing! ...inside and out! Everything is so pretty! I really like the walkway of stones up to your front porch!

Congrats of your weight loss! I've certainly GOT to get on the bandwagon! :) Now that it is cooler, I hope to get into more exercising!

Oh, and last month the guest speaker for our garden club meeting was from the Lake Waccamaw State Parks. The topic was local birds and their migrations. He said that hummingbirds come back to the same houses each year, if they are still providing nectar. I thought that was interesting! I love your pics of the birds! They are amazing! :)

Oh! It was so fun to see your name pop up on my comments today. Melissa, it's always a great day when you stop by. I'm sorry you have had some health concerns. I've been out of the loop for awhile. It's my very busy time of year creating many, many floral. Good for you for the progress you are making and for your determination. I recently added Body Pump to my routine, every other day with step aerobics. I'm really enjoying BP.

Of course your exterior is as gorgeous as inside your home. I love mums too!!

Hey Melissa,
I just saw your Humingbirds and they were so beautiful! The little nest kinda looks like what they would have been in...,.The nest is a round egg shape with 'white ad off white plaster looking mesh that they fix the nest up with and its between a twing! Very micro itsy bitsy!
Melissa
Love the M's!
