Two Month Progress

Hello Everyone!
I passed the two month date on my healthy lifestyle
and I wanted to give you an update on the details.
Here are my new stats.
Pounds lost -23 / 20 more to go.
B/P tonight 103/67 I'm still on the meds.
I am very happy it is working!
Join me and I will show you my step by step process.I weigh in every morning and keep a log.I know most advice is not to weigh everyday
but it just plain keeps me super motivated.
Some days I do say HELP! My husband and I go for long power
walks together at least 4 times per week.
We walk around 3 or 4 miles each time.
We lift weights with our Bowflex machine twice a week.
I plan on increasing this as I continue on this journey.
As you know he is a Marine so I am now in training.
Just kidding...:)
It is really helpful to have a workout partner.
Thank you to my hubby for helping me.
We are eating very healthy foods.
Pretty much everything in this photo we have
in our fridge right now. No refined sugar, no extra salt
and no caffeine for me. I also cut out all diet sodas.
I really can't even put into words how much better I feel.
I would have never believed it until I tried it myself.
A few weeks ago I was ready for a reward.
I thought so anyway.
A sweet treat would satisfy my craving right?
I had a slice of coconut creme cake for dessert.
Oh my goodness did I ever feel terrible.
I was ill and tired from the sugar rush.
Needless to say it was not worth it. Really.
We are drinking healthy hot tea.
Green, black or white for the antioxidents.
My personal favorite is decaf earl grey.
I'm taking time to relax as well. I feel it's key.
I sleep much better these days.
Here's a beautiful lake in Canada.
Here's a recipe to help fight off flus.
~Hearty Chicken Soup~
2 tbls olive oil, 1 medium chopped onion,
1/2 tsp chopped garlic, 2 chopped carrots
3 chopped celery stalks, 2 quarts chicken stock
1/4 cup lemon juice, 1/4 cup white wine
8 ous wide egg noodles, 1 1/2 cups shredded cooked chicken
shredded parmesan cheese, S/P to taste
serve with saltine crackers or crusty bread
Here's everything you need. It makes great leftovers.
Chop up the carrots and celery.
The onion too.
Add the olive oil and chopped garlic for about a minute.
Here is when your entire home will smell wonderful.
Add the other veggies and cook for another five minutes.
Boil the chicken until it turns white and shred. Set aside.
Pour in the stock, lemon juice and wine. Bring to a boil.
Add the noodles and simmer for five minutes.
Fold in the chicken and simmer for a few more minutes.
Top with parmesan. Serve with crackers or crusty bread. We had some last night and it was tasty. Enjoy!
The only sugar I allow myself is dark chocolate.
It's a treat once a day and I only eat a small bite.
It's been shown to help with lowering B/P.
I know many of you have made changes as well.
How are you all doing? I would love any advice.
Happy Veterans Day!

Best of luck.

Way to go, girlfriend!! After Baby Girl's birth, it has been really hard to get my abs back in shape this time! So I've upped the ante with some new ab workouts- the one I posted on that Mr. YH walked in on has actually been quite helpful, so the last inch or so around my waist is finally starting to shed!

You really are an inspiration!!! I am so proud of you and the progress you have made in your new routine!!!

The soup looks amazing...I am going to make it for my family...they could use all of the nourishment they can stand after the last few weeks;)!!!

Congrats...and lucky you for having such a generous and supportive husband!!!

way to GO MELISSA! WOOT WOOT! big claps here! U have done amazing! I really need to cut the sweets. There was a time I only allowed myself a bite or two of dark chocolate. I need to do that again. I have lost 14 lbs. but have LOTS more to loose. Its hard, but having a good supporter like your hubby is great. Your soup looks delish, and a tip for me; is chewing gum and drinking tall glasses of water. The water fills you up. Have a great night! Jenn

I am so thrilled for you. What an accomplishment. This is a wonderful journey to be taking with your very best friend. I know he is so very proud of you. I am sure you both are finding support in each other, you help him to stay healthy and he is helping you to get there. I am so tickled for you both. Happy Veteran's Day to your DH. Please tell him thank you for serving our country and making us safe. God Bless him. Have a beautiful Veteran's Day tomorrow. Country hugs, Sherry

Wow Melissa! That is wonderful!! You are doing so good...it's so good that you have your hubby to help. Kevin and I both need to eat healthier, we keep saying that! I get on a kick every now and then, but then we get in a rush and end up eating Sonic or something terrible like that. I am really proud of you for sticking with this, I know it's hard. That soup looks very good! I need to make it, especially since it's healthy! I shipped out your frames yesterday so you should get them soon. I start decorating the next house tomorrow, I will probably post something tomorrow night. Have a great Wednesday!! Kristen

Great job Melissa! It is amazing how much better you feel when you eat right. I have totally fallen off the wagon and we are having much too much dessert. Makes me feel icky but it's such a hard habit to break. You are inspiring! Keep it up, I'm proud of you!

Melissa I am so proud of you friend!! I had to chuckle when I read about your reward of pie and feeling ill from the sugar rush as I am holding my bowl of ice cream in my hand knowing it is so true!! I was totally off sugar a few years ago and my fibromylgia was so much better. Since our move 2 years ago I cannot seem to get motivated to take the sugar free plunge again- try and fail- now the holidays are upon us....

I know how hard this all is and I am so proud of you for your stick to it ness!

Hello Melissa... what a great post! I too am trying to be even healthier... we have always eaten right, but there is always room to improve... I am on blood pressure meds too, and working hard to reduce mine even more and be off the medication... your reading was great! I love chocolate, my weakness, so I will get some of the dark chocolate and hope it helps my bp as well... I also want to salute your husband for serving our country! Love to you... xoxo Julie Marie

You are doing everything the correct way; eating healthy, getting exercize and not trying to starve yourself and force the pounds off too quickly. I bet you look amazing and by Christmas you will be in all of your old clothes. But buy some new things to celebrate!!! ;-)

I am still doing the yo yo thing. If I lower my portions, I am hungry in the evening which is the worse tome to eat. I make up excuses not to exercise. I lose 6 or 8 pounds (and that is after water since there is a diuretic in my BP medicine), but it comes back as soon as I over eat or have sweets. I KNOW dicipline is the key. You are SO lucky to have your husband to work out with.

I will get through this because I have a sense of vanity and...I am not getting any younger. I need to keep my body and heart healthy.

I am so sorry for carrying on. It is that time of year where we want to look good and I don't want it to turn into a New Years Resolution. You have been a role model to many of us. I love the little images of the teacup and scale, etc... :-) I am just going to wake up everyday with the thought that this day will be the first day towards the BEST me!!

Congratulations. Oh, the soup looks SO GOOD!!

You should be so proud of what you have accomplished! I'm so happy for you! And good job to your hubby for making the change with you.

It's baby steps for me but at least I started *something,* I stepped on the scale Monday for the first time in too long. It was 9 pounds higher than I was guessing it would be...ouch. So I started by making sure I ate breakfast and skipping the after dinner snacks the last couple nights. I even made a dessert for the kids last night and didn't have any. I'm ready to start and get back to where I should be.

Congratulations Melissa! 23 pounds - that's amazing. But most important is that you feel so much better. You are really an inspiration. I think I need "boot camp" myself lol. Does your hubby hire out? Thanks to your dear husband (and to you!) for his service to our country. One day a year is not enough to stop and appreciate our service men and women and their families. Yay Melissa!! I'm so happy for you!!
You're doing so great! That's funny too that you mentioned dark chocolate I just heard the other day how it's one of the best antioxidants there is. Even better than the Acai berry that I've been taking! Can you believe it?...There really IS something that's good AND good for you!! ha!

Well of course, that is in moderation...(like you're doing).

For that matter, they say "moderation" is the key to most everything...

Congrats sweetie!! Were all cheering for you!

I hope you took some before and after pictures for yourself; as your weight drops gradually, you may not realize how much you've accomplished. I commend you on your accomplishment, and your stick-to-it-ness! I know how difficult it is. I'm rooting for you!!

Well done! My husband has been sweet enough to follow my food restrictions for the past month! It makes it easier. I am having to do gluten, sugar and dairy free and it makes things a bit complicated at meal times. We have pretty much just done a little lean protein grilled and veggies. It has been working great for him. And, please thank your husband for his service. And thank you, too. It is a good day of remembrance for so much sacrifice.

Hi Girlfriend...

Girl, I'm just soooo happy for you! 23lbs...yeeeehawww!!! I think that is just soooo exciting and I'm really so proud of you, Darlin'! It's not easy, although it certainly does get easier as time goes on! And like you said...if you do eat something that is not very healthy...like your piece of cake...it just makes you physically ill! Just goes to show you that when you get away from all that unhealthy food...and then for some reason or another eat a bit of it...OMG, your body really rebels! I do that with red meat! I can't eat much of it or it just makes me feel terrible!

It sounds like you have the perfect excersize regimen going too! It's great that your honey is working out right along side of you...it helps tremendously! I'm so glad that you shared what your doing with everyone...I know that I for one...could use the inspiration!

Okay...now I have a question for you about your chicken soup! I love homemade chicken soup but I have never used lemon juice in it...was wondering what adding that does to the taste? Can you taste the lemon?

Well Darlin'...I'm just doin' the happy dance for you right now!!! Keep up the great work, my friend!

Love ya,

Oh, and thank you for commenting on my blog. It is always very much appreciated! In regards to the vinyl lettering I found a Wal-Mart, I believe it was near their candle section where they have their "nicer" home decor...they had a great selection and lots of different sayings. Oh, and you can get them in all different sizes/colors(browns and blacks)---all for $10.00. Pretty cool, huh?

Have a fabulous day, sweetie! ~Liz

Hi Melissa--Your cooking looks so goodl. I have heard that many times that after eating good food when you do eat something with sugar, it does not taste good.
I wish I had something that I could help myself with. When I turned 50, I developed food allergies and sensitivities and I am able to eat the junk food, but the good food, send me into orbit. My allergist tells me just to AVOID the foods. They just happen to be all fruits, I can only eat 4 vegetables, and most sauces with spices, and additives. Very frustrating to want to help yourself, and not be able to tolerate it all. I still stay fairly skinny, but I live on peanut butter. Life gets frustrating when you can't help yourself. Enough of that.
I am very happy for you and glad you have your husband's support. You go girl !!!

You are a real inspiration to me. Now I just need to start; and that's the worst part. I went to the doctor yesterday and I need to lose 25 lbs. My cholestrol is ok now with the medicine but my thyroid is a little out of wack; she put me on some medicine. I love "diet coke caffine free". It's so aweful I drink 12 fl oz 6 x a day. How did you start. Did you clean out everything in your pantry! I am so jealous and happy at the same time because you did something about it. I love the soup receipe; I make one similar.
Any ideas shoot them my way on how you took the step to get started.
I use to work out 5 years ago 4 days a week for 1 hour changing up my routine with weights everyother day. I just can't get going!
And you took 20 lbs off in 2 months. Wow I am proud of you!

I am so very proud of you Melissa. You are doing wonderfully. Me, I've lost about 8lbs but that's not as important and I can do 20 sit-up's now. I know, a marine's wife is probably doing at least 100 but I have back problems from working in a nursing home for 12 years and this is the firt time in years I'm able to do them. You keep up the good work, keep posting your progress, you're doing so grandly. Take care and God Bless!!!
