A Mantel Party

Hello Everyone!
It's a mantel party over at the Nesting Place
and I thought I would join in with the fun.
Pay her a visit to view more decorating inspiration.
Join me and I'll share the heart of our home with you.
Here is our mantel stained a dark cherry. I added a sage
runner, a tuscan style print, scroll candles and topiaries.
A home sign from Kirklands is placed on a stand.
I bought the print at Kohls. I love the warm feel of it.
The topiaries and the candles are from Home Goods.
A trio of candlesticks from Pier 1 and jars from Kirklands.
The wrought iron screen is from QVC.
Here is the view of the family room as you enter the room.
I really adore warm colors and a welcoming feeling.
In the 4 years since we built our home I have not felt like
doing the room over as of yet. I would have chosen a better
layout but this is what works with our large television armoire.
Mr Chestnut decided to show you his hang out by the door.
He loves to sleep and stretch. He is huge!
He meaures 3 1/2 feet long and weighs 22 pounds.
Have a wonderful week!

Your mantel looks beautiful. I was just recently questioning the Easter/Spring decorations with warm colors. Everything worked this year, because we just moved in and I haven't painted (yet). I was wondering how I'm going to make it all work next year.

Reynie said...

It looks so cozy--like a place you could enjoy coffee together. I love the warm colors, too! And that kitty of yours--he's a big boy! I think cats make the perfect decor to any room!!

PS Thanks for featuring me as the "blog of the week"! So exciting! I've never been a featured blog before! Thanks!!!

Hello again, Melissa.
You always do such a wonderful job with every room in your home. I also decorate with the same colors and really the only difference in the summer is that more sun comes in the windows and the view outside is green instead of white.

Hi Melissa....I don't decorate with pastels either...but white, creams...they always lighten things up....I just love your home...our tastes are very similar!

Love the Decor! said...

I've said it before, but your home is amazing!!
You have such a nice decorating style and it just speaks warmth and welcome.

Pat said...

Just beautiful, as usual! I'm the same as far as colors in decorating. I never use...or even wear...pastels. I try to lighten things up, i.e., removing throws & heavy objects for the spring and summer but I stay with my reds, etc.

Thank you for sharing! Hope you're having a wonderful week. I always look forward to visiting.

Brightest blessings,
Pat

Goodness, Chestnut is bigger than Boo!! Not sure of Boo's length mind you but he's only 17lb, and that's pretty heavy for a Shih Tzu!
I love your mantel, your home always looks so cozy and inviting. I have a question, have you ever turned your sofa around to face the fireplace in winter? is it a gas or wood fireplace (or both) I think it would be so cozy curled up on your sofa watching the fire :)

I just love those candles and the holders..they are really nice..Loved the mantel...love everything about your house girl, who am I kidding..lol

The saying on your mantel is just perfect! Everything looks lovely!

Kim said...

Hey Melissa! A quick look around my home and I realized that I'm drawn to the darker colors myself, which does make it difficult to decorate for the Spring/Summer. I do that decorating outside by adding lots of color to my flower beds. I love your mantle!

Kim

Melissa...really my eyes are baby blue...but depending on what I wear..they sometimes can have a green tint to them. Usually people think I am wearing colored contacts...but no, those are my eyes!! Thanks for the compliment - and of course I would mention you...I just love that pillow!

Hi Melissa,

That's the thing about homes, you can do whatever you want! I've always loved warm colors. Until recently, I stuck to rich reds, warm yellows, and sage greens. I've sprinkled red around my home. Now, though, I've gravitated toward whites (mostly in fabric and accessories). I don't think I'll completely give up red, though. Oh, I see I'm not the only whose decorating in the family room is held hostage by the TV cabinet/entertainment center! Mine is huge!!

BTW, we are moving to Utah, Hill AFB. We put our house on the market on Friday and got a good offer on Tues! We accepted and are awaiting inspection on Monday. I've been spending my time cleaning and decluttering and I'm still NOT through! I keep getting rid of stuff as the alternative is having to unpack the stuff and find a place for it....shudder!!!

I am with you on the warm colors. I know that I am seeing a lot of whites and neutrals and while I like them, they aren't me.

Your mantel looks lovely. I don't have much on mine because our double mantel is really the focal point. I am going to paint it black too. I can't wait.

Hi Melissa, Love your mantel -- you did a great job decorating it and the big room. You cat sure knows how to make himself comfy, doesn't he ? No worries or cares.
I don't know how you accessed my blog, but I changed my internet service, and now getting mail from no one at home as well as on my blog. Have been trying everything. Monday I have an appointment at the Apple store and hopefully they can help. One of the codes for sending and receiving mail is not correct. I will be patient!! No one can visit unless I've been bookmarked. Ah, these computers are so much fun when they work, aren't they ? So glad you are doing well.
Enjoy your weekend.
