Painting Our Home

Hello Everyone!
I hope your week is going well.
Everything is great here with some much needed
rain. Whew! I was getting worried about the yard.
Do you paint the walls of your home?
One of the easiest ways to totally transform
a room is by using new paint. It's also the
cheapest and fastest by far. Try it!
Join me and I will show you a few rooms.
The choices of colors are endless these days!
Just looking at this color wheel is making me
want to pick up a paint roller and start again.
Which colors are your favorites?
Are you planning any painting projects?
Check out our formal living room before the paint.
Excuse the blur. I think I almost fell down the stairs.
Here is the result afterwards!
This is a deep gold called Chicory from Lowes.
Don't forget your ceilings. This makes a big difference.
Furniture pops and rooms seem larger everytime.
I love paint!
The formal dining room before any paint.
Here is the after.
The red is called Cooper Molero Fandango Red.
A warm color from Lowes. More Chicory was used.
We painted 4 years ago and these colors are gone now.
Isn't it fun to read all of the clever names on paint chips?
I admit I enjoy everything about the decorating process.
The family room and dinette before any paint.
After! The family room is a sage green from Martha
Stewart called Heath. The kitchen is a lighter gold
called Applesauce Cake and more of the red was used.

I remember this fun process over 4 years ago.
I can't wait to do more painting again one day.
Show us your painted rooms!

Have a wonderful week!

Melissa, I love all your paint colors. Looks so much warmer and richer than the white. I am getting ready to paint my great room, foyer, stair well and upstairs hall since it is an open floor plan and all those walls join each other. Hubby has to go up to the high points and help. I am not going up that high.

I don't think I've ever really noticed your paint colors. I knew your home was warm and beautiful but I don't think I attributed it to the paint. WOW! What spectacular transformations! Paint really does make all the difference!

WOW! You have WALLS? My man tore down some paneling and a chimney and ripped off some 100 year old wallpaper and I would seriously be thrilled just to have walls where all the holes are.
You house is beautiful and the color added all the warmth. Peace.

Melissa, this was such a fun post to read! I love the way you showed the "before" shots--it's amazing the difference color makes!

You and I use a lot of the same colors in decorating. I know that reds and golds are not as popular now as they were a few years ago, but it looks like you still love them like I do!

How I would love if we could sit down and chat and talk about paint colors. . . and all sorts of things! :)

Hope you're having a great week.

The paint colors you chose from the rooms changed the looks so dramatically! It's amazing how paint can change a room SO much! Currently, my husband and I live in base housing, so we're not able to paint. My parents, however, are in the process of painting each room in their home. They're close to finishing, and it's as much of a 180 degree difference as your rooms are. It's amazing to see the differences.

What a difference! I love strong colors and could never live with all white, I think I mentioned that to you before. I think when you get a color that you really love, you never get tired of it. All of it is so pretty! Come say hi :D

I remember when we first got married and I began painting the bachelor condo- it was a little scary for him! The next place was an apartment in DC for 11 months for language training and he was begging for color on the white walls! Even funnier- he was ready to take on the gen. services dept. at the embassy to get the landlord to take down this awful wallpaper. I love how paint and color on the walls makes a house more of a home (and that my husband is on board!!).

Love the paint.
My daughter collected paint chips, from the time she was about 8 to 13, whenever we would go into a paint store she would gather a set of paint chips. They are stacked inside a huge plastic bin-not sure what she will use them for

It's amazing what a little color can do to our rooms. I love your wall colors. I wish I'd picked a deeper color when I changed my living room and kitchen, but I don't dare suggest I paint again or hubby will think I'm crazy! I love your ceiling in the formal living room, it's gorgeous. Hope you're having a great week, it's going fast this week and I can't wait for Friday... come say hi :-)

Love the paint colors! That is something I miss--being able to paint walls! I live in a log home so the walls are all, well, log! Can't paint those! I do have a couple of rooms on the lower level that are traditional so I did paint those. Such fun picking out colors!

What a difference a little color makes huh? We painted ours before moving in so the before and afters reflect what the old owners left behind for us to clean up and what we did before moving in. Here's one: http://kaufmanscottage.blogspot.com/2010/02/before-and-afters-day-two.html

I called my husband in from the other room to see your beautiful rooms! We moved in to our house several years ago. It had been "remodeled" before we moved in and EVERYTHING was pinted white. We started with our bathroom, doing the rag painting and it looked awesome! As we peeled off the tape, it pulled the paint right off! Come to find out, the previous owners painted the walls with oil based paint then spray painted the white water base on top without any prep work. Needless to say, to put pain on a wall requires lots of work.
LOVE your rooms. The pain really makes each room look palatial!

Hi Melissa
No one proves the goal of paint more then you! I have a very vintage home almost 100 years old, my family room is across the back of the home and is screaming for some color. However the room is long and narrow and I can't decide. I want to open it up but just not sure what color. I'm looking for warm but stuck! This is my collection room of patriotic, reds, deeper blues and cream more then white. Any clues for such a odd shape? it's a country type casual area, many books and such, very opposite of the rest of the girly colored house! How's my super kitty boy doing?? Later,Love, Lori

Hey Melissa,

Thanks for stopping by for Friendly Friday! I {{heart}} your wall colors. They are SO beautiful. We are getting ready to paint our home, too. We used a very neutral color, that turned out much lighter than we wanted, when we built our home 2 years ago. Now we are planning to use some Sherwin Williams colors in the yellow/gold family in our 'common areas'. We have REALLY tall ceilings so we plan to hire someone to do it.

Well, thanks again for stopping by. I hope you will do it again really soon.

Have a great weekend!

Thanks for checking out my old house. It did have alot of character and charm...I had fun decorating it with NO money! lol...It still turned out pretty cute though. We lived in apartments for the first six years of our marriage, so that house was like heaven to me! I couln't wait to move in. It's a shame that it's not kept up anymore. The area is really going downhill. I used to really love older homes, but after we built this one I didn't miss all the chipped paint, doors that won't shut, and high electric bills! Glad to be outta there...

I'm sure you will think of a post soon...I know I have a case of blogger's block! Talk to you soon, Kristen

Hi Girlfriend...

Ohh my...I cannot believe that I have missed sooo many of your wonderful blog posts, Melissa! Girl, I am really embarressed...I do apologize! Well...not a good excuse but it seems that blogland has grown sooo much and I'm having a difficult time getting around to all the places that I really want to go! Please forgive me...and just give me a "swift ol' quick in the hiney"...okay?

Anyway, I really wanted to leave you a note about this post you did on painting. It's fabulous and I really enjoyed seeing your beautiful home transformed right before my eyes! You are absolutely right about the gigantic difference that just a little paint makes! And...like you said...it really is an inexpensive and quick way to change the look and feel of a room! Of course, I think you know...from the old days of RMS...how I just fell in love with your gorgeous home! I love everything about it!!! Melissa, you are such a gifted and talented designer...you have that "6th sence"...that I just stand in awe of!!! I love, love, LOVE all of the colors that you have chosen in your home...and I'm still just blown away by the fact that we have used sooo many of the same colors! Hehe! Your home is fabulous...but even more importantly, it's warm...inviting...and just sings of your love for it!!! And of course, that is truly what a "home" is all about...our safe haven!!! Ohhh...and I have to say it once again...your home has the most beautiful architectural details...love those tray ceilings!!! When you added paint color...those tray ceilings just "popped"! Sooo very pretty! I love all of your gorgeous furniture and the placements too!

Well sweet friend, thank you sooo much for sharing your beautiful home with us...this post is such an inspiration!!!

Love ya, sweet lady!
