A Moth To A Flame

Hello Everyone!
The new furniture is here! It actually arrived a week ago
but it has taken me this long to get some decent photos.
I sure hope you like how it turned out. It has been quite a
surprise since what I ordered was gold and this looks orange.
I have yet to figure out why? Does anyone know? I've heard
of taking a paint sample home to see how it reacts in your
room but never furniture. Or maybe I'm the only one
who did not know to do this beforehand. Needless to say
it has been an adjustment and since I purchased it with
no refunds, well you get the picture. Yikes. Hello orange.
I have a feeling when we move it will look different again.
It's from Ashley Furniture and is called the Burnham.
Join me for a tour of our family room!
The room glows with warm colors as you enter from the foyer.
*All photos enlarge when clicked.*
A close view of the column coffee table and area rug.
The views from the kitchen area.
The love seat backs to the fireplace.
Not a thing we can do about the layout at this time.
I have visions of a better floorplan in our next home.
I'll take you house hunting in about 7-8 months. Yay!
I decided to embrace the orange and found a plaque.
They are both from Cato. I always find something there.
A view from the stairs looking down.
The coffee table is very heavy and well made.
I bought the rug at Marshalls.
The end table matches the coffee table.
Most of the accessories came from Ross.
Notice the curved wood detail on the furniture.
This is the matching chair from Ashley.
It is a relaxing spot to curl up with a book.
I'm still searching for the right throw.
The tv armoire is the reason the room must stay this layout.
That is one piece I do plan to replace when we move.
The details are lovely on the carved wood tables.
Here is the Ashley Burham set shown on the website.
Hopefully you can see the difference and see the gold color.
It was also gold when I saw it in person in the showroom.
I guess it's something about our home and the lighting.
If you have any other ideas why it changed color let me know.
I would really appreciate it.
My all time favorite *orange* guy in the entire world.
Mr Chestnut waiting for his milk treat. Like he needs it...:)
Thanks for the kind words on my new blog design.
I plan to change it up every 6 months or so.
I enjoy working with Jenn and getting a fresh look.
Have a wonderful week!

Melissa, It is GORGEOUS!! I love that wood detail on the furniture. That coffee table is gorgeous along with all of your accessories I love the chair too. I have no idea why it would do that with the color of the couch hmmm.. It does look totally different in the picture. Maybe they have more fluorescent lighting in those stores and thats why it looks gold? No idea. Either way its gorgeous! Great picks!! :)

I think it is gorgeous..much prettier than on the website! I don't know what color it is but it looks warm and very beautiful! :D

Hi Melissa! It really is gorgeous and doesn't look orange AT ALL to me! It is definitely different from the photo you showed but you know what? I like it BETTER! I think it is so warm and welcoming and that side chair is perfect. Even if it was a mistake, it was a happy mistake if you ask me! :-)

Melissa, it doesn't look orange at all to me in your photos. Looks wonderful and Chestnut is too cute sitting there.

Hi Melissa! Oh, I've just been waiting to see your new furniture. I love it and it is just gorgeous! Sorry the color wasn't what you thought but it looks pretty perfect in your living room to me. Your home is so beautiful!

Melissa, I love it! The color looks great in your room. It may be my monitor, but it looks kinda brownish to me. We're due for a new living room set too! I've heard of Ashley Furniture before and I think I'll have to look there. You've gotten some really beautfiul furniture from them.

Carrie @ Dittle Dattle said...

Melissa, your furniture it beautiful. It definitely fits your style. I really didn't see the orange in the photographs until you shared the photo from the website. There is a difference. The only thing I could think of is the difference in lighting from your home and the store. It is lovely and timeless.

Bella Michelle said...

Wow, it looks wonderful!!! I especially like your fabric runner on the coffee table as that just pops! The colors are beautiful (though I know I would struggle if I had been imagining another color in my mind) I love it!!!

So beautiful and cozy.

Your furniture is beautiful. I like the way it looks. The color is richer and more vibrant than shown on the website. I love how you have accessorized. Congrats!!

Oh Melissa, your new furniture is GORGEOUS!! The color combination goes beautifully in your home. I am so envious, as I would love to get some new furniture and change things up around here. As always, you have done an amazing job accessorizing. I *really* like that chair, too! Well, all I can say is the pictures were definetly worth the wait! =) Thanks for sharing and inspiring. Give Mr. Chesnut a kiss for us...look at his sweet face, it melts my heart! =)

Have you taken one of the cushions to the store and see if the colors are the same. I mean, I think it is gorgeous...but it would be interesting to see if that is the same fabric.

I will say it looks different than the website...but still pretty none the less.

As everyone as commented, I just bet it's the color of your walls. I, personally, think it photographed beautifully and I don't see the 'orange' that you do. However, I also know if I'm not happy about something in our home, doesn't matter how many friends tell me different, I still have to find a way to 'fix it'. :) Have a great weekend!!

Kat said...

Love it Melissa! It is perfect for your beautiful home. It doesn't look orange to me, but it definitely looks different than the website photo. Our sofa looked almost khaki in the store, when I got it home it turned green! I grew to really like it, but it was a bit of a shock at first. That chair is fantastic, what a perfect place to curl up with a book. I don't think I would move LOL. Kat

Kristens Creations said...

Melissa, It really is beautiful and fits the room perfectly! I don't notice it being orange in the pics...maybe more of a caramel color. Let me tell you though...I had the same problem when we bought our sofa in the computer/t.v. room from Ashley. It looked gold in the showroom and website, but when it arrived it was much darker! I mean MUCH darker!! Almost brown...I was just SICK! My mom and Kevin assured me that it looked good but I was almost in tears!! When you pay a large ammt. of money for something you want it to be perfect. Anyways, I am used to it now, it's probably better that it's darker anyways...with all the kids hanging out in here.

I really think your room looks warm and all of the pillows too. The coffee table, end table and chair are all beautiful too. You did a great job with the room!! I'm sure you will get used to it and be happy with it soon.

Bonnie@Creative Decorating said...

I can see the difference between your pictures and the store picture, however it looks more of a darker brown color to me!! I know that different lighting can change colors but to me it has to be the fabric swatch to be that much difference. I think it still looks gorgeous!

The room and furniture is stunning. I love orange. It is an easy color to work with. It goes with a lot of things. Fall colors are my favorite. The furniture will easily take you into your new home.

I think your furniture and the entire room is beautiful!! It doesn't look orange to me at all--just very warm and inviting. You could take a seat cushion back to the store and compare--if it is obviously different talk to the manager and have a rep for the furniture company contact you. I think you should just sit back and enjoy its beauty....

Andrea said...

I like the couches & the tables have gorgeous details.
I don't think it looks orange in
your home. But there is a difference in the color, from
the website. I like the suggestion
of bringing a cushion to the store,
just to see if it is the same
material. You always decorate
so beautifuly. I think the chair
and all your accessories look great
together. Thank you for posting the pics!

Hi Melissa,
I think your new furniture is great ~ not at all orangey in the photos, but it is different than the website photo. You have done a beautiful job arranging your room, it's always a pain with TV's isn't it?
It's fun to have new stuff to play with isn't it? :-)

It looks beautiful, Melissa. I have seen this set before and it was gold, just as the photo shows. If I were you, I'd take one of your cushions into the showroom where you seen the 'gold' one and compare... if it doesn't match and still looks orange in comparison, than you know it's a dye-lot/factory problam. Or that they subbed or changed out their fabric w/out your knowlege. It's worth checking into and being happy with your purchase. Overall though, the lines of the furniture are beautiful. I've used this same set that they used to make in a dark olive tone, in staging builder's model homes before. It's beefy in size, but beautiful to work with.

The room looks great! :)

The tables and accessories you purchased are just so elegant....of course.I love your taste and style. Take care and love all your posts. The kitty is too cute by Keurig maker. I know you'll be snuggling on there this weekend with Mr. Chestnut. Hugs, Becca

I think it's simply beautiful! And why didn't I think of changing up the pillows on my sofa? Ours are from Ashley as well and came with pillows that matched but I really like the pop of color on yours!

Many Blessings,

PS - I suspect you are right about them looking completely different in a new house. While I think they are beautiful, I can't help but wonder if they are appearing like that because of the warmth of the color on the fireplace wall...

Hi Melissa,

Your room is gorgeous ~ love it! You know, in your photos, I don't think the furniture looks orange at all. It's very rich and warm. I'll bet the showroom furniture appears different because of their lighting. Your room has lots of warm colors whereas the furniture showroom in the photo is all white with windows backing right up to the furniture.

Honestly, I like your room much better. It's so warm and cozy. Just perfect my friend!

Love the new blog design as well.

Have a great weekend!

Melanie said...

It looks really nice and warm. I would not believe that this is the same set because the pictures look nothing alike. Are you sure that they didn't send the wrong fabric on the furniture? Did it come it didn't colors?

Designs on 47th Street said...

Melissa, it is all just so elegant but warm and homey at the same time. I would call the color a nice warm cinnamon. Of course if I saw it in person I might have another color name for it. I truly love that side chair. Love the fabric choice. What sort of throw are you looking for. Everytime I make a big change, it takes me awhile to adapt. I think you will grow to love this with time. It's very nice.

Hi, Melissa:

Everything you do always looks absolutely gorgeous!

If you're curious about the difference in color, why not take one of your cushions back to the store and compare the fabric?

I think it looks beautiful, but if you're not sure, I would definitely check it out.

Good job as usual!

Hi Melissa! I think your furniture is beautiful. We had the same experience with furniture that we purchased last year. The colors seemed off when it arrived but we adjusted and now I love it. I think showrooms have special lighting that brightens fabrics and much more space so items do appear different. Enjoy it its beautiful.

Liz@ said...

Melissa- this is sooo nice! I love it all..the chair would be my favorite spot! To be honest I do believe the "orange" affect is being cause by the red on the walls...It's certainly not really orange, but I really believe that the red is working with it to make it feel that way. The first picture realy gave me that feeling...the 2nd picture it looks much more golden.
The catalog picture does look much more golden, but look at the background it's white with brown drapes and even the floor rug is outlined with brown and they used rust for the pillows...
Either way I really like it, and I think it's wonderful.

Billie Ross said...

Hi Melissa,

I think your furniture is stunning in your home. I feel your pain regarding furniture placement. We dealt with the same issue our last house.

I don't think the furniture looks orange from your photos, but I'm wondering if the red accent wall is picking up on the tone in the sofas and drawing that out -- or if it's reflecting off the fabric and causing it to look orange...

My suggestion would be to hold a white sheet or blanket up behind the sofa (along that red wall) and see if it still looks orange. The fix could be as easy as a fresh coat of paint.

Best of luck,

Melissa, I think it's perfect for you room! It doesn't look orange on my monitor. It looks gold. And it looks so comfy, too. I really need to get some comfortable pieces because Mr. Magpie says I make him perch on rickety old chairs. LOL! But this... this is not only handsome but sturdy and comfy, too. It may be because I'm on a laptop, but it looks very similar to the other in color. I think you are going to end up loving it. Just tell yourself that all of us think it's gold. LOL :-)

Oh Melissa it is beautiful!!
Sometimes if you have just a hint of gray in your carpeting it can make gold things look a bit orange/peachy. If it continues to bother you try a larger area rug with more browns and gold tones in it and that may make the difference

Melissa, I like your new furniture, well done. I am a stager by trade and I would love to make a suggestion to you as far as furniture lay-out. Don't know if you have tried angling your L shaped furniture grouping by having the two seater run parallel to the armoire. By doing this, you will "open up" the seating arrangement and the room won't be so divided. It will also help bring the fireplace into the setting. Just a thought,

Hi Melissa, you won't believe this, but I have a similiar set. Only mine looks different shades according to the light in the room and paint color? It is frustrating though, because we expected a different color also. I have finally adjusted to the color and realized I will probably never see gold/light brown? You know what though, I really like yours, maybe it is just how we perceive what we wanted :) Your room looks gorgeous and perfectly accessorized.

Hi Melissa~
Your "new room" looks beautiful! You did a great job! Your pieces don't look orange in the pics but they are different from the website pic....possible reasons....dye lot variations, the room on the website has huge windows w/natural light coming in AND white walls...both of which will alter how a color appears whether it is paint or fabric. If it does continue to bother you I would do as others have suggested and bring a cushion into the store to compare and if it is different ask for some type of concession. In the future it is always a great idea to bring home swatches of fabrics, just as you would do with paint, to see them in your lighting with your wall colors reflecting off of them...the fabric will almost always look different in your home than it does in the store or on a website.
Having said that...I think the room looks great and warm and welcoming and that you don't need to change a thing...unless you're not happy with it!
Have a beautiful week!
;-D Kathleen
