De-Clutter, Clean & Organize It!

Hello Everyone!
What are you up to this month? I hope your weather has been nice and fall-ish.
I'm on a decluttering, cleaning and home organizing mission with our upcoming
move next year it just seems like the right time. Join me to see what I've done.
My hubs closet was long overdue for a good clearing and cleaning.
Now it looks almost empty. He needs some new clothing items.
I like closets to have different levels and sections for display. It's easy to see.
In the armoire the television was removed.
In it's place I added his sweaters, jeans and shorts.
We have decided no television in the bedroom works best for us. Now it's in the bonus room.
Our next home will probably have a family room and a basement tv. That's it.
I bought a little office organizer from Target and use it for...
OPI nail polish! I love this stuff. I paint my nails a few times a week.
The kitchen canisters from Kirklands work as holders for Q-tips,
cotton pads and cotton balls. It's nice to use them a different way.
Also in the master bathroom I decluttered and organized the shelves.
An outdoor plant shelf sits in my master closet and displays fashion jewelry.
I call this organizing "step two".  Look at the shelves as "step one" in the process.
You can buy these cloth jewelry organizers at Marshalls.
Wooden shoe shelves work well. They came from Bed, Bath & Beyond.
I hung my winter scarves on the wire closet shelves. I wear them often.
I'm still working on this part. I think I need a better way to display them.
I'll let you know what I come up with. Do you have any other ideas?
Sweaters and t-shirts are folded nice and neat.
Above them are jogging suits and jeans. The shelves go to the ceiling.
I'm working on the other side of my closet.  I'll share that soon.
Do you donate and organize with seasonal changes?
~*~
Recently a few of you thought that we have already moved. I thought I would
update you all on the exact status. Things have been up in the air for the last
few years as far as exactly when and where. Sorry for the confusion. As of now
I know for sure we are moving in the spring or early summer of 2012. Delays
have happened with others moving out of the Maryland base for my hubs job.
That is why we are waiting and waiting. Sigh. I'm ready. Can you tell? Ha!
I will keep you posted when we sell our home and the buying of a new one.
~*~
I'm in the process of setting up a Facebook and a Pinterest account.
I'll let you know when I can get them up and running. It looks like fun!
Have a wonderful week!

I need you to help me organize. I really need to go through my husband's closet. I tend to just shut the door and pretend it doesn't exist, but at some point I'll have to deal with all his stuff. I love the OPI colors too!

You should write an ebook on organizing! I see we both have a love of fashion jewelry. I wish I could hire you to get me organized.:) xo,

If I can give you any advice, Melissa, it's to go through all your stuff and when you think you're done - go through it all again! Even though we were downsizing, I had boxes galore. I had gone through everything two years ago and then again this spring/summer. We are going to need to find some additional closet solutions. The new place came with a really nice and neat closet set-up, but we also had dressers at our old house, so I'm finding it challenging to just use the closet shelves and drawers. I may have to get one of those shoe cubbies, too!

I think that this cleaning out process is great to get out of the way before you have to pack everything up. You don't want everything to have to be done all at once! I have a scarf hanger for my scarves. It looks like a giant coat hanger with holes in it. You just poke the scarves through it. It works great if you're looking for an alternative.

I love to declutter. I have been on a rampage since my husband left LOL I find that when he's deployed its the best time to get rid of the excess. I've still got several rooms to go but my kitchen and three bathrooms are finished!
Have fun...we have beautiful weather here! I love it.

Hi Melissa,

Your organizational skills are wonderful..I have been doing one small area of my home each week and hope to be through the bedroom and family room by the holidays..it's such a great feeling to get things organized and decluttered! I helped my Mom organize her costume jewelry...we put the matching necklaces, earings and braclets in a ziplock baggie, that way she can see things quickly and keep the sets all together. She has them organized by color. Shh....She has way too much jewelry!! Everything at your place looks wonderful..thanks for keeping us posted..I too thought you were moving soon.

The closests look great! My kids were put on notice the other day that we are cleaning the bedroom and playroom top to bottom today; bdays and Christmas are coming up so it's time to declutter...and I'm already looking ahead to the move. I didn't have a FB or twitter account to set up Pinterest, but the nice guy at Pinterest I communicated with said to set up twitter and then I could delte it without deleting my Pinterest account because I didn't want to mess with either. Just fyi.

I envy you and your organizational skills! I will say that I have been cleaning out for the last two weeks. We had a yard sale and now I have to put back all the stuff I drug out, but I am definitely making runs to Goodwill and to the dump! We have so much stuff! I even cleaned out my closet! My clothes are organized for the first time ever!!! It won't last long so I am just going to enjoy it while I can!

Girl, your so organized! I love being organized I try my best to keep it that way always, but with a 2 year old who likes to grab everything out and scramble things up its kinda hard! :) I sweat I feel I clean all day long!!

All of your organizing looks great! Regarding the scarves, I have seen this "thing" at Ikea that I'm going to buy for my scarves. I know you are following me on Pinterest (thank you), so take a look in my Master Bathroom/Closet board to see what it looks like. I'm in the process of unpacking & organizing our home after a recent move. Unlike you, I don't ever want to have to do that again...LOL! Good luck on whatever happens.

Really enjoyed your home tour. Your home is beautiful & you've done a lovely job of decorating. The touches of Fall that you've added just make it look all the more inviting.

Doesn't it make sence to declutter with the changing of the season? Your closets look very neat an tidy. I have been working on my own closets. It's so satisfying to have them organized.

I plan to work on my closet tomorrow. I'm not looking forward to it. It's not awful but it needs to be done. I currently have a stack of clothes on the floor that are too big for me since I've lost weight. I need to do my makeup drawer too!! Your closet looks great.

Melissa, You are so efficient ! Everything it it's place all folded neatly. I do that and later go to find it, and it's in a new place, but where ? You are too young for that, though.
Nice post !

Melissa, everything looks so neat and organized!
I have been trying to do the same thing around here.
When we were in the military, we used every move as an excuse to get rid of things we didn't want or need anymore, but, now that we are retired, we seem to want to hold on to everything! LOL
Thank you for sharing all your organizing ideas. I really like how you used the office organizer for all your nail polish. Very clever! I think I may have to "borrow" that idea from you! :)
I also want to thank you again for featuring me as "blog of the week"
Thank you so much for being such a helpful and kind person.
