Home Office Take Two

Hello Everyone!
We have been painting rooms, cleaning, de-cluttering, donating, selling furniture
and buying new furniture all in the last two weeks. It's been crazy and I am tired.
Finally I can share with you the new home office which was previously the unused
formal living room. I really did like this room we just never used it. Ever. I had the
idea a few years ago to relocate the upstairs office to this space and here is the result.
Join me for a before and after tour.
After! The paint color is a light khaki color called Tobacco Leaf by Martha Stewart.
I was ready to lighten up the deep gold we had here before. The desk unit fits well.
Here is the formal living room before the room transformation.
Yes, we did keep this leather furniture for the family room.
Another before view. The french doors are one of our favorite features.
I used the same drapes from Target that were in the previous upstairs office.
Since they matched a chair I was going to use I saw no reason to change them.
The bookcase has been redecorated. I talked my husband into donating half of his books.
Let me tell you that was not easy. He loved his books but I know they will find a better home.
Photos of special events and the helicopter he flies.
On the other side I added an M and a few more decoratives.
The chair from Ashley was fairly new so it found a new home here.
This is my hubs spot for lounging on his laptop while I sit at my desktop.
The envelope pillow matches the drapes and came from Marshalls.
I was able to still use the rug from Lowes that was in the room.
This room will be changed to dark hardwoods soon though.
The same was true for the burgundy drapes from Bed Bath and Beyond.
One more view of the entire space.
We love this bright room now. The important thing is...we use it!
Thanks for coming by. Check out my Face Book and Pinterest boards.
I'm still pinning away and post on my FB quite a bit.
I'll see you very soon with another new makeover project.

Have a wonderful week!

Melissa, it looks awesome!! I can relate not using the front room but lately when we have people over the guys stay out in our main room and the girls go in the front so it does get used more than I thought it would. I love that you changed yours to the office. So pretty! Well done!!

It turned out gorgeous. I love the french doors too. I don't know what it is about formal living rooms but it seems they don't get used much. This room will get used now!!

Your new office looks great, and I love that paint color. We also changed a small formal sitting area into a playroom for my daughter. I don't regret it all. It is right next to the front door, so that helps me keep it picked up. I am excited to see the rest of your changes.

Love it Melissa but then again I never doubted how it would turn out ;) I've been meaning to ask you...when you donate, do you also value each item and get a receipt for tax purposes? I did that once and although it paid off big time...it was a major pain!

Hi Melissa,
I love the new bright and lightened look. The home office looks cozy and sophisticated. Guess what? I have the same rug and love it. You did a phenomenal job. I love the colors mixed with the furniture pieces. After viewing this post, it makes me remember how much I miss you posting pictures of your beautiful home. Keep them coming.I get so much inspiration from you. =) Get some rest, you've done a lot of work and it shows. xo ~Liz

Melissa, it looks fabulous! Love the lighter wall color and the fact that you are going to actually use your office. My formal living never gets used either so I'm thinking of changing into MY sitting room where I can hide from the kids and read. Congrats on you non-move, you must feel so relieved. Can't wait to see what else you will be decorating.

Looks really nice! I understand your husband's hesitation to give up books ~ I'm the same way. :-) I love the helicopter too! My ex was, and still is, a helicopter pilot. I started learning and talk about concentration!

Anyway, it's great that you will now use the room. So many have formal living areas that are not used. My son & dil changed their's to an office also.

Wow! It looks great. In our old house we turned the front living room into an office, too. It was a great use of space and loved to spend time there! Your room is beautiful!! Enjoy.

Looks great, Melissa! At least you didn't have to go through the hassle of moving, although it must be a little disappointing. I think we're a lot alike in that we need our decorating projects, and I'm sure it's fun making some changes. ;o)

Wonderful! My favorite is that you use it and it's full of light! I often think about our NC house and how I'd have used the rooms differently if we were still there. Can't wait to see the floors!

Love what you've done Melissa! It look so elegant but comfortable. Can you come to my house?? LOL We are about to start painting our condo and I'm so afraid... but once we get the color up we've chosen I always love it.

Have a blessed week, hugs, Sherry

Melissa, your new office space looks wonderful! I also love french doors and the new paint color is gorgeous!
We have also been changing some of our living spaces. We have a formal living room, family room and game room. All we use is the family room, so much wasted space! So, we enclosed the game room upstairs with double doors and made it a huge bedroom for our daughter. Sometimes you have to live in your home for a while before you realize how to better use all your space.
I love what you have done and can't wait to see more! I know it will be gorgeous!

I love your house anyway you arrange it! :-) It is fun switching things around, isn't it? Feels like a new house. ;-)

Your husbands new office area turned out so nice! It's very traditional with masculine touches which is perfect for a man's office. I'm sure he prefers it in its new location too.

Oh Melissa! This is perfect! The room size is just right for what you did with it. I love the new colors and how you were able to get a comfy chair in there too for hubby! Your bookcases look great! I wanted to put in hardwood flooring in my new little office but we couldn't work out some problems with matching the hardwood in the dining room and it not costings 3 arms and legs :-)

Kris said...

Very pretty Melissa! I can't wait to see it with the hardwood flooring!

No formal living room for me either. We also made ours an office that gets used as much as the kitchen! I have those same drapes and used them as a starting off point for my house. I am sure you will enjoy your new office. It looks functional as well as beautiful.

Doesn't it feel good to repurpose a room, previously unused? I hear you and we are very mindful about using our space wisely. Our small living room borders downstairs family room so the fireplace heats both rooms and upstairs. We call the living room our coffee room because of the cozy fireplace and we love to sit and talk in the mornings. We have those very same doors, which we also love, in our dining room.
