Light and Airy Entryway

Hello Everyone!
We are finally nearing the very end of our home sprucing. As you may recall
about 5 weeks ago I made a very long list of things "to do" around here.
The only things left are the outdoor landscaping, waiting on the new furniture,
and the new hardwood flooring. At this point we may have changed our minds on
installing hardwoods for a few reasons. The first being the expense has not kept up
with the housing market here, the hassle of tearing the rooms apart...again, and the
darker floors would not contrast with dark leather furnishings in the room. I know
I can add a light area rug but still I'm not quite sure. I'm still thinking about it.
I'm tweaking a bit but for the most part everything is finished. Whew!
Join me for a tour of the newly painted entry. It's so different to us. We love it!
After! The view as you enter. It's much lighter!
This cream paint is called Bone Folder by Martha Stewart. I used it in many rooms.
The view from the family room.
I bought a spring wreath at Kirklands. Spring is definitely in the air here.
The view into the hallway and formal dining room. I'll share that room next.
The opposite direction from the formal dining room.
Here is the same view "before" with a darker sage green paint.
Once again we liked it but after six years it was time to change things up.
The foyer is two stories high. Here you can see the light color well.
Here is the same view with the old paint colors.
The deep red was very dark and it carried all the way up the stairs.
Mr Chestnut is hanging out in his "old" room wondering where the new furniture is.
He does like his "new" room too. Look at his glowing eyes. My hubby took this with his phone.
We are really getting tired of sitting on the floor to watch American Idol and rental movies.
Tomorrow the tv cabinet arrives and for the family room downstairs but no sofa yet.
Of course it's on backorder. I have no patience. I need to work on that.
~*~
I hope you are having lovely weather where you are as well.
Happy first day of spring!

Very pretty indeed. I know you are loving your lighter and brighter colors very much. I just put a home in your neighborhood Under Contract today. The new Buyers got it for $50K less than the Sellers bought it for in a Distress Sale. :-/ But, things will be getting better soon. I keep praying at least. Take care, Barb

Melissa, the house looks lovely! I can tell from the language you use that you've shed house "weight" and are enjoying the changes a lot!

It looks wonderful, Melissa! Boy, you really took off on this after you made that list! : ) I like the lighter color walls in our new place; it has made it easier to work our stuff in and I was heading in that direction anyway. In fact, the one room we are painting is a color that I might not have minded a couple of years ago. A green in the sunroom, which will be going to a golden beige color.

It's looking so fresh! I went to color 6 years ago myself and I still love color but I'm realizing that the neutral tones allow me to mix in color without having to wear it on the walls! I guess change is inevitable! I wanted hardwood flooring for my office but our housing market is poor here and my home doesn't warrant the extra cost.
I bet you just love all these new changes! This new color your using is intriguing. I'm going to pick up a sample of it at HD.
I hope your new TV unit pleases you and I don't blame you for your impatience on the new furniture!

Have a great week! Enjoy the beautiful weather!

It's looking so good. I bet it makes your home feel bigger too. That's how mine felt after painting the walls white. I feel for you having to sit on the floor to watch tv. That's no fun. It won't be long before everything is back in it's rightful place and you can enjoy living and entertaining in your "new" home!

Melissa, when you first said that you were changing paint colors, I was a little scared, because I really loved the other colors and just the feel of your house. But I love that color. It makes it look larger and brighter in the entryway and will be better for when the time comes that you do want to sell it. I had thought about extending out hardwood floors into our living room, but it just seems like so much work moving all this stuff!

It gorgeous, Melissa! I think you're having the next best "fun" to moving! Love the new color, & I want that wreath....lol!

I love your new paint color! So light and fresh! I'm looking at your floors and wondering why you'd want to change them. Although I do love dark floors. Ours were almost an orange/yellow color and we stained darker, which I'm much more pleased with. It's a mess though. Still sweeping up dust.
You work really fast to have all that in 5 weeks. Lovely!

Love all your changes! I know what you mean about making changes you might not be able to recoup. I'm sure whatever you decide will be lovely.:)
PS Gorgeous wreath!

Melissa, your new light and bright look is just lovely. I'm sure you're excited to have a whole new look! I especially like the fact that you're continuing to use many of the accessories you already owned--I think it's good for people to know that they can totally change their look without having to purchase all new rugs, artwork, lamps, etc.

I am really excited to see your kitchen cabinets! I hope you're happy with the way they turned out!
