Blog Transition & Family Room Updates

Hello Everyone!
I have been on a bit of an unintentional blogging break. It seems that lately I have grown bored with blogging. I guess it's understandable after three and a half years of it. It used to be I would share at least three posts per week. These days I can barely come up with an idea for one post per week.
I actually have two other topics of a more serious nature I could blog about but they are completely unrelated to home decorating. I have been toying with the idea of changing the direction of my blog or starting a second one but at this point I'm still not sure about it. It would mean opening up in a way I'm definitely not used to. Privacy is something I value greatly but at the same time one of the topics well scratch that make that both topics would probably interest you and may even help some people.
I'll let you know what I decide...
In the meantime I am in the process of having a new blog design done and I know that always
helps me to get a fresh outlook. Look for that in about 3-4 weeks. I hope you will stick with me
while I go through this transition. Thanks to all of you who have always been here. I appreciate it.
~*~
Here is the final room I am sharing with you on our home updating project. The family room was one of the first we finished but it's the last I'm showing you. I'm not sure why it worked that way. Whew! We are both happy to be done with home projects for now. You know how that goes.
Join me for a tour of the updated family room!

Whichever direction you decide to go, I hope you are not dealing with something that's too awful. Take care of you! :)

Melissa, I would be so sad if you left blogging...Pinterest and FB are easier but it is NOT the same thing. I am not worried about the frequency of posts, life does get in the way, I don't know how some ladies do it. I also think that the name of your blog covers more than just decorating.....Melissa's "heart" & home, the "heart" part covers non-decorating topics. I would be happy to hear your thoughts and opinions on other things as well as your gorgeous decorating. xo

Melissa, your home is so beautiful and you have done an amazing job of redoing everything. Your family room looks so inviting and comfortable. Love it. Hugs, Marty

I'm with Barbara! :-) Seriously, you don't have to blog daily or X times a week ~ I think the "having to" takes the fun out of it. Life is meant to be lived. I honestly can't wrap my head around those that blog daily, do a ton of projects, etc., and have children also. They have more energy & whatever than I do.

I understand the privacy, however, there are many times that being open is a godsend and a help to others too. Only you can make that decision for yourself.

Such a cozy room, Melissa! I love your ceiling fan. I also love how this room is off the kitchen and the view into it. Whatever you decide to do with your blog is ultimately up to you and how you feel. I always enjoy reading your posts, whenever you post them.

It doesn't matter how often you post or the content, you will still have a nice blog either way. I enjoy looking at your pictures. My house is plain, I wish I could decorate...

Very pretty! Mr. Chestnut looks happy there in the chair. You know, I always try to remember that blogging is just for fun. There isn't an obligation in my mind to post a certain number of times per week. Just post when and if you want to.

You did a beautiful job decorating your house. In any way or diraction you want to go with your blog, it'll be great, like this one you've had for 3 years. Enjoy your weekend.

Hi Melissa!

The living room is beautiful! I need to get my butt in gear and start painting my house too. Everything is so old and out of style. You inspire me.

I know what you mean about wanting to go into a different direction with your blog. There are so many things I want to share, but don't because I'm afraid to put it out there. Unfortunately, it leaves me with a boring blog that doesn't really express the true me.

Take your time and think about the direction you want to go in. You can't go wrong either way.

Enjoy your weekend!

Hi Melissa! I have also been blogging about 3 1/2 years and most of the time once a week is all I can do. I don't paint my furniture or re-do complete rooms, so I am limited! I still find little things to say, though, it seems. I am also very hesitant to open up about my personal life. That's why it's called personal! lol I hope you will decide to include Mr. Chestnut in whatever you do! I loved seeing him looking so comfy in the chair! Have a great weekend!...hugs...Debbie

Another beautiful room Melissa! Your stone fireplace is beautiful and I love the way you have it accessorized!

Mr. Chestnut and that chair are just made for each other. I think you can blog as often or as infrequent as you want. And you don't have to just stick to home decor. It's totally up to you. Have you ever thought of doing some photography posts? You do such nice shots of your house, maybe you could start doing some photography at local gardens and parks.

I really like the lighter look, Melissa! Classy!!

Melissa, I am loving your lighter colors with your warm dark furniture! This is your blog and you can make it take any direction you want. I think managing two blogs would be so hard. I love your blog for you. The decorating is awesome, the weight loss is so inspirational, and I always love to see what outfits you put together. It doesn't matter what you write about, I will come to your blog because I like YOU!!!

Heeeelllloooo! I catch up with you on facebook. And I see you on Pinterest as well. Sooooo my dear Melissa... I visit with you daily. Now you know I do not have a blog. I often think I will start one when I am retired. But I could see where ideas could leave you. YOU have to decide what you want to do. You do know... you were an inspiration to me with your weight loss. I have kept my weight off for almost two years now. Just think... it was you who helped me along my journey. I agree with Barbara F the "heart" part in your blogging name covers all aspects of life. So... once again I can say, it is YOU who will decide and all of us out here in "web" land will enjoy whatever YOU do. Once a week, every 3 weeks, every other month or whatever... Just remember it will be what YOU want and enjoy. Your blog has been an inspiration to others...don't forget that my friend! But keep it fun for yourself.
The family room came out great! The dark furniture pops with the lighter paint color! ~Nancy

Beautiful room...looks like Mr. Chestnut likes this room too! He is so handsome looking on that chair.
I enjoy reading your blog....after "finding you" again it would be sad for you not to share your home. I don't have a blog so it is not my place to say how difficult it is to post much. I just know I enjoy keeping in touch!

WOW! where did you get that beautiful lantern on the side table? I'm so glad you kept this furniture, it is beautiful!
On another note, why not post on this blog on other topics...we're all ears and ready :) It doesn't always have to be about decorating, does it? Its about you and what you want to talk about. Take a little break but please don't go completely away...
LOTS of love,
Michelle :)

Your room turned out lovely!

It becomes a struggle sometimes to come up with interesting topics that you can share with your peeps. I've been at this a year and I have weeks when I am doing good to post once a week. I always want to share something I think will interest everyone.

When I think about it though, it's not about how many times a week you post thats important but the message in the ones you do share.

I've changed my direction to include a variety of topics none of which relate to each other instead of limiting myself to home decor and decorating.

I'm sure that whatever you decide will be just fine!

Love the new look, Melissa. Best of luck to you with whatever direction you decide to take regarding your blog. I hope you don't stop blogging though!

So pretty! You did a great job as usual. As for the other stuff going on, it may make you feel better to "put it out there" but if now know that I'm sending lots of prayers your way.

Melissa, this is just lovely! As usual you have done a wonderful job.

Here's what I'll say to you: your blog is Melissa's HEART and HOME. I definitely think you should share your heart in any way that you feel led to do. You are right--privacy is important. So you should get to make this decision without feeling any pressure. It should be up to you and your husband. However, If you're looking for suggestions from others, my vote would be for you to share whatever you like on this blog! :)

I appreciate you.

I will be reading no matter what direction you go. I am struggling to ever get back to my blog. Once away from it, I find I enjoy looking at other blogs more than trying to keep up with mine!

Love everything about the room!

Your home is beyond beautiful, Melissa. And so is your blog. I hope you never quit blogging. I took a bloggy break, too, and find that I've lost quite a few of my normal commenters. I am hosting my annual WEDDING BLOG PARTY on June 8th and would love for you to join us! AND I'm also having a GREAT GIVEAWAY right now, too, so please stop by and read all about them!

If you start another blog I'm sure you will have lots of followers..people love to learn from others experiences even though for you it would be opening yourself up to "strangers" . I'm sure you will do what you feel is right for you! Sending happy thoughts your way..have always enjoyed my visits to your home!

Your living room looks fabulous!! I love the softer wall color, and your furniture looks beautiful, too!! Whatever direction you decide to take your blog, I'll enjoy following along. :)

Hi Melissa! It seems that you and I are having some of the same sentiments about our blogs. I have considered starting a second blog too, in order to write about other aspects of life that are important to me. I wish I could feel comfortable writing about it on my current blog, and maybe I should. Although I enjoy making a lovely, cozy home for my family, sometimes I just think "I can't write about how I'm going to redo this entryway table one more time."

After reading this, I'm intrigued! I would love to see other topics that you would be interested in sharing. And maybe I'll get brave and start writing about healthy living/natural health like I have wanted to for years now!

Hi Melissa,
Happy Monday! Your family room is so lovely and I really like the "lighter" look. The lighter look really makes your furniture stand out.

In regards to your blog, I will follow along in any direction you take it. Your my #1 favorite blog. =)

Melissa, your new living room looks gorgeous! You always do such an awesome job with your home! I have to tell you, I would be very sad to see you go. You and your blog are one of the best in blogland. Your kind, loving and caring nature shows on every post your do, so I will always follow you no matter what your blog is about or what you decide to share with us. It will always be wonderful because that is the kind of person you are.

I understand being bored with blogging. I have not blogged in so long but I have to admit when I do come to my Google Reader with over 100 blogs saved, yours is one of only a handful that I look for. I love your style, your grace (almost Jackie O like) and your kindness. I hope your life is going smooth and the things you speak of are not health problems. Here's hoping you have a fabulous day! PS: I have tried creating extra blogs to have subjects coordinate with them but it just seemed more tasking than I wanted to do so good luck if you do that! Pamie G.

I have enjoyed your home tour. You are really talented. I have just found the color yellow. I use to love greens, beige and creams. I felt like I needed some color. Now I am second guessing it. I am crazy that way.
I hope you stick around. I have a blog and I never write anything. I like my privacy too. I just enjoy blog hoping and seeing all the beautiful homes. I love decorating. I can tell you do too.
Good luck in whatever it is you are working on and enjoy your newly decorated home.

I completely understand how you are feeling about blogging. I kind of came to that realization around the first of the year, so I've cut back quite a bit. Whatever course of action you choose, do it for yourself first. I try really hard to connect with those who comment on a regular basis, & I still enjoy visiting, but I also stopped thinking about "Followers." That was very freeing. I do so hope everything works out, Melissa.

Your family room is lovely. After all the ASCP that everyone is using on every piece of furniture they own, it is so refreshing to see some dark rich woods & colors...lol! Most of my things are dark, too.

Have a great rest of your week, Melissa, & good luck in making your decision.
