Basics For My Winter Wardobe

Hello Everyone!

How are you? We are doing well but still waiting for our official moving date.

The day is actually getting closer and closer and I'm more than ready.

How about this warm weather? Is it really January or even winter?

I picked up a few new wardrobe essentials and thought I would share them.

What I like about them the most is that I can mix and match freely.

Join me!

A deep plum peasant blouse from Cato along with a ruffled gray scarf.

Look how cute! Cato is now carrying ballet flats in sparkle colors for $13.99.

I wear a size 6 and this is the only color they had in my size. I also added the plum jewels.

I bought a denim ruffled shirt and paired it with boot cut dark denim jeans.

The navy striped scarf and brown woven belt complete the outfit. All from Cato.

I bought the brown ankle boots from Etienne Aigner at Marshalls.

I paired a gray shirt with a bright tomato red blazer from Cato.

I will wear it with gray and red bead chunky strands.

I just love peacock, aqua, turqouise blue right now!

I found a soft cotton jacket and matching tank at Cato.

I found three silver necklaces with this blue color in it.

It's hard to see the true color here but this is a very vivid blue.

I like to wear the basics like black and white together. I found a white ruffled

cotton blouse at Cato that I paired with a black velvet jacket from Dillards.

I'll wear this chunky link gold jewelry from Cato with it.

I bought a basic khaki cotton sweater and paired it with a Vera Wang dotted scarf.

The khaki stone jewels and sweater are from Cato. The scarf is from Marshalls.

Mr Chestnut had to see what was up and he thought it all was all a bit strange. Silly boy!

A soft cotton wrap sweater in ivory and black button up blouse go well together.

Both are from Cato. I paired it with an animal print scarf from Marshalls.

Large size gold and black stone drop earrings complete the look.

How about a warm and comfy red velour workout suit from Marshalls?

I think I payed about $15 for it. You can't beat that!

I have been walking and weightlifting this week. I'm sore today. Ouch!

It's Chestnut approved this time.

I thought I would share this steal of a jewelry deal that I found at Michaels.

I had no idea they carried jewelry. Did you? They also sell it so you can make your own.

Look at the sparkle stone bracelets for $3.99 a piece. Love em'!

I am feeling blessed, grateful and truly lucky this week since I won not one but two

amazing giveaways from Shabby Apple and my blog friends Shenita and Barbara.

Here is the pretty black vintage dress called Boogie Woogie. Thank you Shenita!

I cannot wait to get it. It is adorable with the wide satin bow.

Here is the beautiful gold feather necklace I won. I received it yesterday.

Thank you Barbara! It is darling and I plan to wear it this week.

Have you been buying new clothes lately? Where do you shop?

I seem to be sticking with my favorite stores Cato, Target and Marshalls.

I'll probably expand my clothing store horizons very soon.

Inspiration For Our New Home

Hello Everyone!

It seems this new year is already starting to fly by as usual. How

are your resolutions going? I'm starting off slow on my exercise plan

but I'm hanging in there. With our moving day getting closer and closer

I can't help but find new ideas that I envision using in our future home.

I have been pinning away on my Pinterest boards the last few months.

This large mirror and greenery looks beautiful in the formal dining room.
This lovely dining room buffet table belongs to Jennifer.

I would like to try a black and white collage wall somewhere.

It does look really great on the stair landing.

This deep gray paint by Benjamin Moore is a beautiful color. It's called Knoxville Gray.

I absolutely love the light neutral sofas and square leather ottoman together.

I'm keeping my eye open for the mercury glass candlesticks as well.

A sofa table is something I have always wanted to try in the family room.

I also like the double mercury lamps. We just got a Bose stereo so I would set it up like this.

This iron crystal chandy is my dream for the dining room!

A pop of zebra print will be a nice accent. I'm thinking in the master bedroom maybe?

Our next fireplace I'm looking for a more traditional style. I want a lighter, airy look.

We should have a fully finished basement for the first time.

I found this photo and was really inspired. I don't know if we will have a kitchen though.

I have always like drapes and plan to use them everywhere once again.

I liked this idea of using smaller ones as accents to the window. Like a frame.

Teal, aqua and or peacock blue colors are definitely on my list!

I plan to use it as an accent color "everywhere". Love it!

These long silk panels had me at Hello..:)

Here is a photo I found that I'm envisioning for the guest room.

Time will tell how it will all come together. I can't wait!

We still have about six more weeks before his official orders come through.

After that it should start to fly by at record speed. Whew!

Inspiration, Motivation...Where are you?

Hello Friends!

It's a brand new year and most of us are de-cluttering our homes along with

trying to lose weight. Most of you have read my weight loss posts from the past.

You may know I lost 50 pounds a few years ago. Click on the top of my header under

"My Weight Loss" if you have not read them. I'm happy to report I've still kept it off.

Give or take about five pounds. The main problem is my lack of sticking with my

exercise plan consistently. I have been laaazzzy, and or "pinning". You know that

fun site that completely draws us in for an entire day. My ultimate goal would be to lose

about ten more pounds and have much more energy. Exercise helps to increase energy!

Right now this is me minus the cardio oh and the weights too. Ha!

I do enjoy power walking. I will start again with that.

Some days I feel like this guy. Too funny...:)

This is very true. Should ten pounds really make me feel this way?

Overall I just want to be in better shape and have more energy.

Eat more of these!

I would cross out the "skinny" and replace it with "healthy" though.

I could do this right now...!

Weight lifting was the key to my weight loss. The bowflex will get some use again.

Organizing Desks and Bookshelves

Hello Everyone!

Happy 2012! I hope your start to the year has been a good one.

Mine has already started out on a very high note. I could not have asked for better!

We are still waiting on my husband's official moving orders but this is "the" year.

Finally! As you know we will be moving sometime in the late spring or early summer.

I have already purchased a new aqua geometric shaped lamp and pillows that I plan to add to

the chocolate brown guest room. They came from Kirklands with a gift card I got for Christmas.

Hooray! You gotta love getting a gift card to your favorite store. I miss decorating and

posting more often. Please stick with me! I appreciate those of you that have. Also don't

forget I'm always on Pinterest or Face Book if you don't see me here. Come join me!

Most of us start out the new year with some cleaning, organizing goals.

I really enjoy organizing our home and am always looking for new ideas.

I already had the blue polka dotted fabric boxes and when I spotted

the same style of photo album and scrap book at Target I was inspired.

A very special family has recently come into my life and I need a place for keepsakes.

I bought them into the bonus room and decided to rearrange my little bookshelf.

This was the perfect opportunity to donate the books I wasn't reading anymore.

Here is the after! It's clean and fresh with a pop of fun color.

I ended up with an entire bag full of books ready to go to a good cause.

Even Chestnut got a new snazzy black frame. It fits him well...:)

Here is a unique idea from Pinterest. A double sided desk unit.

I really like the hanging blue baskets for magazines or artwork.

A built in desk and shelving unit in a deep chocolate brown.

The roman shade is a nice touch along with the accessories.

This is perfect for a teen! An armoire desk in aqua blue. Very cute and stylish.

The shelves are arranged neatly with storage boxes in white. The framed prints look pretty too.

A bright white office looks airy and very inviting.

The pop of warm red gives it a homey feel.

How about multiple memo boards for large families?

This is a terrific idea for a desk in a kitchen.

A cozy reading nook, shelves and a ladder adds a little something extra.

I have never been good at crafts but this precious room makes me want to get started.

Love those striped chairs and floor along with the ribbon dispenser.

Season Of Peace

Hello Everyone!

How is your holiday season going? I hope you are enjoying it all.

We have two trees a red one and an ivory but this year I only put up the

red tree since it is a slim style and easy. I have been adding bright lime

decorations to it and am slowly but surely getting the festive look I'm after.

I found the cutest new ornaments and lime sparkle sticks at Cracker Barrel.

Don't you just love that place during the holidays? They have the most unique decorations.

Mr Santa says Ho, Ho, Ho! I always like to add monograms and feathers.

Do you see the sparkly red bird with the lime wings and tail? He's my new favorite.

The topper is a big plaid bow I found at Michaels.

I added sparkly red twigs to it to make it shine.

It's hard to see the lime sparkle sticks throughout the tree. Can you see them?

They appear as dark spots instead of the bright green that they are.

I just adore the warm glow of multi lights. Our other tree has the white lights.

Which are your favorites? It's a tough call for me. I like them both very much.

Create Christmas Cheer

Hello Everyone!

How have you been? It seems the weeks are flying by for sure.

This always seems to happen around the holidays doesn't it? Whew!

This is the last Christmas for us in this home and I'm decorating light.

Join me for a tour!

Joy! I love this word. I found this sign at Tar-jay.

I added it to the powder room sink area.

Noel is on the other side. I'm really liking the lime color and plan to add more.

I hung a Santa tassle on the lamp and called it a day.

Easy peasy. You have to love that at this time of year.

I added my favorite Joy and Noel ribbon frames to the buffet table.

I hung my Joy to the World tassle and added the wooden red birds.

Done, and done...:)

They are handmade by Kristen. She is super talented.

Here is a close up of the tassle made by her as well. She is a wizard with ribbons.

The guest room joined in the festivities with a plaid throw and snowflake pillow.

I found them at Target during the last Christmas season.

The final touch is an M ornament hung on the lamp.

Do I need some new dresses to add to my wardrobe? The answer is *yes*.

It's been years since I bought a new one. Seriously. For many years I worked

in the fine jewelry retail sales industry and that is all I wore. Dresses, suits and

skirts all day everyday so I think I got very tired of them. Now I don't own a one.

Except for my wedding dress and a few MC ball gowns I have saved.

Randomness...Beautiful Fall Days

Hello Everyone!

The fall weather has been spectacular here! I hope for you too.

The days are shorter and shorter and it is going by so quickly. Seriously, where

did this year go? It seems like yesterday my hubby was leaving for a deployment

and that was all the way back in early January. He has been home since late July and we

are playing the waiting game with his orders. The move will definitely happen in March, April

or May of 12'. That is all we know as of now. Including the fact that the location may change.

What? I know...

In case you have been following our story we thought we were set on moving to Maryland.
That is not the case as of a few weeks ago. Another location has popped up out of the

blue and we both could not have been more surprised. The problem is we won't know for sure

until mid January. Whew...I wish I could tell you where it is but I have to wait on that for now.

I can't wait to get going on this move and settled again. I feel sort of in "limbo" right now.

In the meantime I hope you will continue reading my blog even if I have varied post

topics instead of the usual decorating. I'm just not doing much of that these days.

Although, I should have some Christmas decor posts coming up soon. Stay tuned.

Glamorous Nails for the Holidays

How was your fall weekend? Ours was nice and relaxing.

I have been spending way too much time on Pinterest. It's addicting.

I have been getting many inspiring ideas for our new home. I can't wait!

One of my blog and FB friends recently asked if I would do a nail tutorial.

Since nails are definitely an obsession of mine I said I would be happy too.

Join me for my step by step process to glam nails that last.

Cool! I thought this was a neat looking photo effect with the lamp shade.

First, gather up your supplies. I have used Sally Hansen and OPI products for

a very long time. Through trial and error they seem like the best for the price.

OPI polish will last and last if applied carefully with a base and top coat to seal it.

I have early childhood memories of my grandmother giving herself manicures

while I looked on with fascination. I was hooked. I do my own nails and always have.

1. Remove old polish and clean hands. To remove yellow stains use lemon juice.

2. File your nails to the desired shape and length.

3. Use clippers a few times a month if they grow too long. A medium length is important.

I have to stress the importance of keeping all of your nail equipment clean. Use alcohol.

4. Apply a clear, strengthening base coat to seal in nail moisture. This is key to healthy growth.

5. Apply the color of your choice. Two coats if you wish. Let dry.

I happen to have a fluffy orange cat pillow to rest my tootsies on...LOL!

6. Apply a clear top coat for shine and added strength.

If you are careful it will last for about ten days or even longer.

This warm shade is OPI's *Mrs O'Leary's Barbeque*.

It's a burgundy brown color perfect for the month of November.

7. Enjoy your polished nails! Use different colors that you like.

I usually buy my OPI bottles at Target or the JCPenney hair salon.

8. Finally...Keep your hands and cuticles moisturized during the change of seasons.

I forgot and paid the price with a hangnail that really hurt. Ouch. I'm fine now.

Warm Eats and Sweet Treats

Hello Friends!

I hope your weekend went well and you are staying nice and warm.

Most of the east coast had an unexpected winter blast. Brrr....

It made us want to stay in and cook and eat.

Join me for the recipes,

Creamy Chicken Noodle Soup and Pumpkin Swirl Brownies.

Here are the simple soup ingredients. Thanks to my sister Michele for sending me this one.

2 cups of tender cooked chicken breast

2 cans of Cream of Chicken soup

4 cups of water

1 pint of half and half

broad egg noodles

2 tsp of salt

Mix all the ingredients except the egg noodles in a large pot.

Bring to a boil and then add noodles. (the amount depends on how thick you like your soup)

Stir frequently until noodles are done. (about 10-12 minutes)

It's rich and very creamy. It's yummy on a cold evening.

I could see adding carrots and celery or even mushrooms would be good.

S/P to taste. Serve with crackers. Enjoy!

What could taste better at this time of year? If you like pumpkin anything you will love them!

You could omit the cayenne pepper if you would like and they would still be spicy.

It's Time for Scarves and Sweaters

Are you ready for the cooler days and nights? You know what that means...

It's time to break out your fall wardrobe. I have been updating mine the past few

weeks and thought I would share my finds with you. I love fall clothes. Join me!

I bought the ruffled cord jacket at Marshalls and the brown paisley scarf at Cato.

Thanks to Pinterest for giving me the idea to add a flower pin. Love it!

On a recent post I cleaned out the closets in our master bedroom and I was trying

to figure out a storage solution for my many scarves. Here is the before photo.

And here is the after! Thanks to the ladies at Cato for giving me the idea.

I ran over to Ross and grabbed an over the door robe hanger to drape them on.

Genius! Why didn't I think of this idea years ago? :)

Here's a close up view. It was $10. They had many different styles and finishes.

Pinterest had also given me this idea for hanging them and it's a good one too.

This is colorful ribbon but scarves, jewelry anything would work here.

Here's another Pinterest idea. It's a wine cork frame for hanging jewelry. So cute!

I bought the soft teal sweater, belt and fashion jewelry at Cato.

I'll wear it with my black leggings and short black suede boots.

Here's a close up of the chunky strands. They are my new favorites! I love the teal color.

I bought the orange ruffled cardigan at Belk. It's super comfy and warm.

The beaded necklace came from Belk too. Look at the little brass leaf. It's perfect for fall.

I found a cranberry jacket at Marshalls and added the gray beaded jewelry to wear with it.

Eeek! A scary Halloween door. I'm now on the lookout for twine pumpkins.

What a neat idea to add the lanterns. They seem to be the new decor' trend.

How simple and festive this looks. It's leaves as name tags for Thanksgiving dinner.

With our upcoming move next spring I can't seem to stop looking.

The red door grabbed my attention. I want one in our next home. Love it!

The garage doors are perfect. I like the arches and hardware.

The mixture of stucco and stone looks great. The grass is so green!

This front porch is dreamy. I'll take some sweet tea please.

The soft gray is a really nice exterior color. I like the peaks at the top too.

How about this amazing exterior lighting. The home glows with warmth.

Wow! This one is gorgeous. I'm really dreaming now....:)

De-Clutter, Clean & Organize It!

Hello Everyone!

What are you up to this month? I hope your weather has been nice and fall-ish.

I'm on a decluttering, cleaning and home organizing mission with our upcoming

move next year it just seems like the right time. Join me to see what I've done.

My hubs closet was long overdue for a good clearing and cleaning.

Now it looks almost empty. He needs some new clothing items.

I like closets to have different levels and sections for display. It's easy to see.

In the armoire the television was removed.
In it's place I added his sweaters, jeans and shorts.

We have decided no television in the bedroom works best for us. Now it's in the bonus room.

Our next home will probably have a family room and a basement tv. That's it.

I bought a little office organizer from Target and use it for...

OPI nail polish! I love this stuff. I paint my nails a few times a week.

The kitchen canisters from Kirklands work as holders for Q-tips,

cotton pads and cotton balls. It's nice to use them a different way.

Also in the master bathroom I decluttered and organized the shelves.

An outdoor plant shelf sits in my master closet and displays fashion jewelry.

I call this organizing "step two". Look at the shelves as "step one" in the process.

You can buy these cloth jewelry organizers at Marshalls.

Wooden shoe shelves work well. They came from Bed, Bath & Beyond.

I hung my winter scarves on the wire closet shelves. I wear them often.

I'm still working on this part. I think I need a better way to display them.

I'll let you know what I come up with. Do you have any other ideas?

Sweaters and t-shirts are folded nice and neat.

Above them are jogging suits and jeans. The shelves go to the ceiling.

I'm working on the other side of my closet. I'll share that soon.

Do you donate and organize with seasonal changes?

Recently a few of you thought that we have already moved. I thought I would

update you all on the exact status. Things have been up in the air for the last

few years as far as exactly when and where. Sorry for the confusion. As of now

I know for sure we are moving in the spring or early summer of 2012. Delays

have happened with others moving out of the Maryland base for my hubs job.

That is why we are waiting and waiting. Sigh. I'm ready. Can you tell? Ha!

I will keep you posted when we sell our home and the buying of a new one.

What a gorgeous fall weekend we had here in the Carolinas.

Home Sweet Tour

Hello Everyone!

Since our home will be on the market in early 2012 I thought I would

share a quick tour room by room starting with the downstairs. We have not

decided yet if we will use a realtor or militarybyowner.com. I think we are

leaning towards trying to sell it ourselves. Wish us luck! I'm ready to move now

although it looks like it won't happen until around the spring time frame.

Welcome to our home!

The foyer is two story and has a nice sized coat closet.

The formal living room is on the left as you enter. Many use it an office. It has french doors.

The family room is large and has a gas log stone fireplace.

The formal dining room is warm and welcoming.

The eat in kitchen is off of the family room area.

The laundry room is off the kitchen and has a pocket door.

The powder bathroom for guests.

The downstairs includes a two car garage and a large deck.

We have been happy here but this is the way of the military.

I love this time of year and on that note I felt inspired to share my fall favorites.

Autumn Harvest

Hello Everyone!

Autumn is arriving soon and I am happy about it.

What a lovely time of year. Do you enjoy the crisp air and spiced smells?

Finally after many months I have done a little bit of decorating.

Join me on a tour of our warm formal dining room.

The tuscan style cafe' prints are new to us and are from Kirklands.

I had the other pictures hanging on each side of the buffet for over 5 years.

It was definitely time for a much needed change.

I tried to take a photo of them up close but it's hard with the glare.

Hopefully you can see the details of the cafes on the street.

Did you know two pictures with similiar scenes are called sisters?

I had not heard that one before. The salesperson at Kirklands told me.

The larger prints fill up the space much better.

Here is the decorated buffet table on the other side of the room.

I added wheat grass bundles and eucalyptus stalks to the existing decor'.

I'm trying to keep it simple this year which is hard for me to do.

The chandelier is made by Quorum lighting.

The autumn flower arrangement came from Kirklands.

Two Years Of Weighting

Hello Everyone!

It's hard for me to believe but it has been two years since I began my weight loss journey.

I started on 9/09/09 and I am thrilled to report that I am down 4 more pounds.

That is a total of 52 pounds lost since the beginning. I am grateful that it did not turn

into a wasted effort and I let myself gain it back. I did NOT want that to happen!

Suprisingly it has not been a stuggle to keep it off.

I'm not doing anything different than I already have done.

I think the habits I created for myself from the start have stuck with me.

I would enjoy having you join me on this healthy journey. Many of you already have.

Email me and let me know if you have questions. I understand the process.

Eating healthy is the key to it all. One of my biggest tips is not eating at night.

My cut off time is 6 pm and I have stuck to this faithfully. I enjoy a big breakfast.

Unfortunately exercise has fallen by the wayside for me lately. Oops.

I plan to get back to power walking and weightlifting.

I still weigh every-single-day and keep a journal.

It really works for me to know the actual number. I'm a detail person.

I still have these big ole' pants and try them on to remind me.

In June of 10' I cut my hair to go along with my new weight loss.

By September of 10' I was celebrating one year of success!

By February of 11' I was trying to decide on another haircut. Or not?

Thanks for the advice you gave me.

By March of 11' I decided to cut it once again for the summer.

It has since grown back. Alot. I haven't taken any pictures lately. I will soon.

Thanks to all of you for your encouragement the past 2 years.

I hope you are all healthy and have made your goals as well.

Here we are at the start of another season. Fall is my absolute favorite time of year.

I'm looking forward to many exciting changes with our upcoming move to Maryland.

I will keep you posted on our house hunt and selling this one when the time comes.

In the meantime I plan to get back to decorating our current home. I really miss it.

It Could Be Worse

Hello Everyone!

We had an unwelcome visitor this weekend and her name was Irene.

We had 24 solid hours of rain and wind that shook our floors. That was a

strange feeling. We had debris blown in the yard and some trees that almost

fell. A roof leak in our master bathroom will require some attention. Other than

that we did well. The power was out for about about 12 hours but we consider that

lucky considering millions are without power right now. If she blew your way I hope

you are doing well. Stay safe. How did you weather the storm? Share with us.

How did I not lose this flag? I forgot to bring it in.

A path of leaves and debris. The leaves were stuck to all of the windows too.

We came very close to losing this cypess tree.

The gutters are filled with leaves. The city will clean it soon.

My husband is trying to fix the tree. He may need to restake it.

We are thankful the roof held up well. Some of our neighbors lost parts of theirs.

Cool weather cannot get here quick enough. Go away hurricanes.
Update:
How did we not notice the missing shutter on our garage?
Our neighbor gave it back to us.

Neutral Rooms That Pop

Many of you have asked about our upcoming move and the style change I plan

to make to our home decor'. What I'm thinking is a basic traditional style with

touches of old world warmth and pops of color. Does that even make sense?

I can see it in my mind. Here's hoping I can actually do it.

This is what I'm dreaming about... I love this room!

It's light, bright and airy. It has an interesting twist with color and unique items.

This is our current family room. You may remember back in January I purchased the

new sofas at Ashley Furniture. I told you the story of how they changed color on me.

You can read about it here if you missed that post. Since my hubby came home last

month we have also discoved that they are not comfortable at all. Needless to say

we will be selling them as soon as we move. Sometimes things work out for the best.

Between the color being off and the lack of comfort they have to go. Bye, bye sofas...:)

I have to find a chess set. Love the soothing blue colors on the sofa.

Beautiful! The arrangement of pictures and the animal rug are my favorites.

I adore the unexpected pop of the green vase. The chair fabric is gorgeous too.

All of the sofas shown are neutral but not boring. The bird pillows give it interest.

The mix of stripes and leather are unexpected and unique. I love this distressed red table.

The double tables and a striped rug look charming. I like the two lamp idea.

A rustic woven basket and the striped ottoman look good together.

I love the french doors and windows above them.

This has more color but the green keeps it neutral. The dark wood adds to the traditional look.

This room has comfort written all over it. I love that large clock.

Clearing Out The Stuff

Hello Everyone!

It's nice to be back blogging. Thank you for all of your kind words on my

husband and his recent deployement. He is very happy to be back home again.

We still have no definite moving date as of yet. Today is his first day back at

work so it's possible we should have orders to Maryland by next month. I hope...

We have our current home to sell and another one to buy so we need to get a move on.

In the meantime I have done some major de-cluttering. I plan to have a much

simpler, lighter and brighter style next time around. I have many ideas and am

ready to decorate a new home again. It will be fun and exciting to start fresh.

First I gathered everything I no longer wanted into one room.

I used the breakfast nook in the kitchen as my landing zone. It's funny

how we don't even realize we buy the same colors over and over again.

Everything here looks red, green gold or orange. I think it's time for an update.

All of the candlesticks had to go. I really never used them as much as I thought.

I'm thinking some type of special occasion candles for the next home.

A few more items from the formal dining room were added as well.

I'm not sure why I was hanging on to all of this stuff. I'm definitely not a clutter bug.

Next boxes were gathered and filled. We ended up with about ten in total.

Many items were large and did not even fit in boxes. My entire SUV

was full from front to back and everything was brought to Goodwill.

This does not include everything. I still have much more to go but since

we will be putting the house on the market I don't want it empty. Even after

all of the clearing and cleaning it all still looks quite full from room to room.

We donated a couple of hundred DVD's and kept only our top favorites.

Do you clear out and donate regularly as well?

My sister and her family moved into their gorgeous new home last month

and as soon as I get some done photos I'll post them for you to see. I think you will

enjoy seeing her modern yet rustic decorating style. She has inspired me for sure.

Their home has many unique features and a minimalist design that is stunning.

The Wait Is Finally Over...

Hello Everyone!

After a long seven month deployment my hubby is home from war.

Hooray! This has been the third time since we have been married and

it is never an easy thing being apart for so long. My sincere thanks go

out to him for his hard work. He led and accomplished many great things.

all the others who are still serving. May they all be blessed and safe. Peace.

Savoring The Summertime

Hello Friends!

I've missed you all. I can't believe I couldn't hold off from posting any

longer. It's been over three weeks but I thought I would be gone for

at least two months before I posted again. Wow, blogging really does

become a part of our routine doesn't it? I hope you all are well and

are beating the heat. Whew! It's been a scorcher of a week for sure.

I have tried to comment on most of your blogs these past few weeks

and apparently some glitches have been happening with blogger.

If you don't hear from me then you know why.

We still have no definite news on the move and I have not done one bit of

decorating. I haven't been to Kirklands in over a month. I'm having withdrawls!

Join me for a completely random post about random stuff.

I always enjoy eating fresh fruits and making more salads in the summer months.

This becomes my main meal of the day. It's been so hot it feels right to eat light.

I found these new sugar free drink mixes at the grocery store and they are my new favorite.

They are really delicious and refreshing. They taste exactly like what the flavor describes.

I've been having a great time shopping for cool summer tops.

This ruffled royal blue is from Cato Fashions along with the silver jewelry.

I found a chocolate brown top at Marshalls to wear with my khaki capris.

I've been going gaga over fashion jewelry lately. It's fun and not very expensive.

What's not to like right? Do you wear chunky fashion jewelry too?

I found these little shrugs at Target. They are on sale this week for $14.99

and come in a many colors. I decided to go with basics and the orange for a pop of color.

Have your tried them before? Just so you know they run small. I bought the XL and wear M.

They also have the tanks that go underneath on sale for $7. I got a few of those too.

I love zebra and found the purse and silver jewelry at Cato.

The ruffled black top is a jacket that goes over a black tee. They are from Marshalls.

This white flowered peasant top is from Ross and the hot pink jewelry is from Cato.

I'm still searching for a pair of brown capris or shorts to wear with it.

I love summer clothes and all of the bright colors.

I ordered this decorating book from Amazon and it's giving me so many ideas.

I can't wait to move and get going on my many home decor' projects.

I've been searching the internet daily and have found another home I like.

This one is three years old and is in the target neighborhood we have in mind.

The garage is in the back and it's about 3500 sqare ft. Can you believe the size

of these homes? They all have large basements. We will have to make do with it.

We definitely want a finished basement. They give me the creeps unfinished...:)

I'm not sure I like the small lot. Oh well...we have time to look and we may build.

Chestnut says Hello to all of you too! He's been a silly boy full of energy one

minute and the next he's sleeping in the middle of the floor with his belly up.

The End Of The Road

Hello Friends!

As you may have noticed I have posted less lately. I have decided to take a

long absense from the blog world. I have thought hard about this and it's

an easy answer as to why I'm doing it. I have simply run out of post topics.

When I started my blog over 2 1/2 years ago it took me some time to

decide what kind of blog I wanted. In fact I first started a much more personal

type of blog but closed it after only a few weeks. My hubby really didn't like

the idea of sharing our lives unless I had it set to private. A few months later

I had so many friends from RMS starting their own blogs I decided to jump

on the bandwagon and start a new one but this time it would only be a home

decor' style blog. I have pretty much stuck to that topic with a few exceptions

such as my weight loss. Since I changed my lifestyle for health reasons I decided it

was important to share it with you and all of you seemed to really like those posts.

You can read all of the posts on it if you are interested located on my sidebar.

My one year weight loss update remains my most popular post to this day.

Thank you to all of you who encouraged me during that difficult time.

I hope all of you who changed your lifestyle along with me are still doing well.

Our upcoming move to Maryland has me at a decorating standstill. I have many

ideas swirling around in my head but they will have to wait for our future home.

No sense changing a thing in this home now. The real estate market has stalled and

it would not be worth our time or money. I feel fairly confident our home is going to

sell when the time comes. We are in a great neighborhood so we'll see what happens.

I'm going to start cleaning and donating to Goodwill over the next few months

to get ready for it. I plan to have a simpler, less cluttered look the next time around.

If anything comes up about decorating before we move I will be sure and share it with

you. I'll share our future house hunt with you when the time comes as well. I'm ready!

For now all is quiet on the homefront and that is not necessarily a bad thing.

I hope you will all be here when I come back and post again.

I thought about closing my blog, setting it to private or not posting at all

and in the end I decided to let you know the real deal.

Moving Up To Maryland

Hello Everyone!

Our upcoming move is getting closer and I can't wait. Hooray!

As you may have guessed by the post title we are moving to Maryland.

My husband should have his official orders in July, our home will be for

sale by August and we should be moving between November and February.

We sure hope everything goes as planned. We have been here for five years

and it's definitely time to move on. I realized that this home is the longest I have

ever lived anywhere. Isn't that crazy? My father was in the Air Force and with

my husband being a Marine I am always on the move. I'm ready to stay put.

A comment was left here telling me. Thank you! Well, maybe I'll visit this city one day too...:)

This is western Maryland and it looks great for hiking.

I'm sure we will explore a lighthouse.

And eat a crabcake or two. Yum! I love all kinds of seafood.

I've already started home shopping and found a few I like.

We plan to buy brand new and possibly build quickly if we have time.

All of the homes have large basements and tons of square footage.

Way more than we need but we will deal with it. It's more to decorate right?

I'm hoping for a brick front but they seem to be rare in the town we are moving to.

Here's another model to be built this summer. I liked it too!

I have never been to Maryland but of course an upcoming

house hunting trip will be in order. I'll show you the process.

This is a recent addition to the kitchen I bought at Lowes.

Add them all around your kitchen counters. They glow at night.

A red drum shade with drop beads for the guest room.

A silver hammered style works well on my desk.

A mini lamp next to the stairs in the family room.

Add a tassel to decorate with. Make them unique!

I always love the balanced look of a pair of lamps.

This set lights the way to a welcoming entryway.

Another pair of lamps decorate the buffet in the dining room.

I like to see the unexpected. Use a mini lamp on top of the fridge.

It also highlights any home decor' you may have around the area.

Another unexpected twist is adding a lamp to a bathroom counter.

It's time for me to take a much needed blog break.

I have been having major issues with blogger over the past

few weeks with spacing and being able to post properly.

In fact I had to remove a post I did earlier this evening.

It's so frustrating I'm going to take a break and see if it is

somehow magically fixed while I'm gone. It's time anyway.

Cut, Curls & Summer Swirls

Hello Everyone!

I had decided not to show you my new haircut after all

but then I received a nice email from a reader asking

about it. Thanks Nancy! I thought it looked too much like

my last cut so I didn't want to bore you. It's a long bob

style with the front longer than the back. On this day last

week I added some curls to it. It's usually stick straight.

The jean jacket is from Marshalls. The necklace Cato. I have no idea how I took this photo? I thought it turned out funny. One day I will add some auburn highlights. I have always wanted to try them. Curls and more curls! It grows fast. I'll have to decide again what style I want.

This shorter length will be great for the summer months. I never buy printed clothing but I am loving the new designs that are in stores.

I bought the swirl shirt at Cato.

The jewelry was handmade by Kristen. This pink print had a touch of brown. I added a tank to pick up the color.

I like navy and crisp white for summer.

Sweet Dreams In Chocolate

Hello Everyone!

Last week I found this chocolate brown quilt set at

Marshalls and on a whim bought it for the guest room.

I figured it would blend well with the gold and red I

already had in the room. When we move I will probably

keep it and mix it with a more neutral palette. Dark brown

is one of those versatile colors that works well with anything.

Gold walls, chocolate bedding and red pillows work together. A console table holds family photos and a lamp. It had red striped bedding before and it was time to change it. An iron scroll shelf displays accessories. This metal box may be the starting point for the future room. The night stand is nice to have for guests. Leopard prints are my favorite accent. A bench holds more pillows. It came with 4 shams and 2 pillows. The rest I already had. The drapes were also at Marshalls and are a good match. Here is one of the brown pillows that came with the set.

I had the red flower so I pinned it on to jazz it up.

I went shopping for new living room drapes and

ended up using them in our kitchen dinette after all.

I recenty updated you on the status of our moving situation and as
of today it has changed yet again. My hubs received a call asking
if we could move in January of 2012 instead? He said yes!
This is his ideal duty station and job. So it looks like we
will be moving sooner than expected after all. Wow! I'm ready!
I don't want to say where yet but I will take you on our house hunt
when the time comes. It seems this is the time for family moves.
This is my youngest sister Michele and her darling sons Noah, 3 and
Grayson, 1 saying goodbye to their starter home a few days ago.
They sold it last month and have started the home building process
on the home of their dreams. They are so excited! Congrats Sis!
Her blog is set to private but maybe I can talk her into sharing the
photos of it through my blog. You would love to see it I'm sure of it.
She adores Pottery Barn and has this look in mind for the decor'.

Sassy Spring Colors

Who says spring colors have to be just pastels?

Our home is what you would call a fall/winter house.

I decided to just go with what I had on hand and I created a

sassy spring vignette inspired by the pretty weather today.

Mr redbird tassel is ready for spring.
I added dried hydrangea and a sugared pear.
I used what I already had.
I displayed a green dinner plate and tied it with
a polka dotted bow. Now it's dressed for the season.
The plump green bird is from Cracker Barrel.

I debated on changing out the florals and decided to leave them.
It's hard to add pastels in with warm colors.

A Time For Change

I thought I would take a moment and cover a few

things that I haven't talked about in a few weeks.

As of yesterday we found out we are not moving

this fall like we thought. That's okay with me.

He was told to be prepared for spring or early summer

moving orders in 2012. It's hard to believe that we will be

living in this house for 6 years by the time we do move.

That is pretty much unheard of in the Marine Corps.

It will be much easier to sell our home in the spring

so it's probably a really good thing in the long run.

Remember our new furniture from Ashley and how it

looked orange-ish? If you missed the post you can read

about it here. I went to Ashley and found out it was from

the different types of light sources reflecting off the fabric.

It really is a deep gold color. That was a relief. Whew!

A few weeks ago I posted about my hair and if I should

get it cut again or not? Well I finally came to a decision

and decided to cut it. I'm ready with the warm weather

headed our way plus it's so much easier to take care of.

It's been the season of changes for sure.

Wearing Your Home Decor

Have I gone bonkers? What do I mean by that title?

Did you ever notice your wardrobe matches your home?

The colors in our home are found in my wardrobe many times over.

Join me for a tour of clothes and home stuff. Fun!

Warmer days called for a fresh new spring outfit.

Don't you just love ruffles? They are everywhere these days.

Our master bedroom is blue, brown and ivory.

All of the colors I wear often.

A crisp shirt and lime green stone necklace set is from Cato.
Cotton turquoise capris and ruffled tank are also from Cato.

I have a tassel with the exact same lime green and turquise colors.
Who knew I would be wearing the colors as well?

Khakis and browns one of my favorite combos.
The cargo pants and shirt are from Cato.
The jacket is from Belk Hudson.
The stone necklace and wood bracelet are from Pier 1.
Did you know they also sell fashion jewelry?

The walls in the office are a khaki color and look
how the ribbon in this frame matches everything.
The frame was hand made by Kristen.

Ruffles and hot pink! Love this combo mixed with gray.
The cords are CK from Sams Club and the
cardigan and gray shell are from Belk Hudson.

Pearls and flowers on a necklace look feminine and pretty.
It's from Wet Seal. They have the nicest fashion jewelry.

The pop of red reminds me of the previous outfit.
Red is my favorite color and is found throughout
our home and in my wardrobe. I do wear hot pink
but no light pink is found anywhere around me.
The walls are green and I do wear many shades of green.

A ruffled denim jacket and skinny jeans are from Cato.
I love a pop of color peeking through a darker background.
I definitely do this when I decorate as well.

The cheerful yellow shell is from Chadwicks online.
The turquoise stone jewelry is handmade by Kristen.

Pops of yellow are found throughout our home.
It makes me smile!

Animal prints are a staple with me. I have animal print decor
everywhere it only made sense it carrried over to my wardrobe.
I think no wardrobe is complete without black/ white combos.
The pants are from Cato and the ivory ruffled sweater from Kohl's.

The animal print scarf is from Target and the
tortoise shell necklace is from Cracker Barrel.
Cato has the lace camisoles in all colors too.

Black and red may just be my all time favorite.
This unique tee has a touch of damask print. Love it!
All of this is from Cato. I've been having fun at this store
since I lost weight last year. The prices are very reasonable.

Red and animal prints are found in the guest room.

Aw, crisp white is like a breath of fresh air.
I like to wear it with pops of color for the warmer months.
The sailor jacket and capri pants are from Cato.
The navy ruffled tank is from Marshalls.

For even more pop I added yellow jewelry from Cato.
When we built our home I chose white siding, red brick
and black shutters. This pretty much sums me up.

I would say I also have a bit of flair for drama
such as this feather wreath and black table.
Although you won't catch me wearing feathers.
Ha! I'm not as brave as Lady Gaga.

A Light To Stand On

How is your weekend going? Today is finally

a beautiful and sunny day here in NC. Yay!

We are expecting more of the same all week.

I had been searching for a desk lamp for the

home office and could not find anything I liked.

The room has one window and get's minimal light.

I decided to add a new table to hold a larger lamp.

Check it out!

The lamp and accent table are fom Marshalls.

Now a warm glow is achieved in this tiny room.

A Hair Affair

Hello Everyone!

I'm trying to decide on getting my hair cut or *not*

and I'm asking for your opinions. It's been almost eight

months since my last cut and it was a big change then.

Take a look and see how much it has grown.

What do I do?

Here I am getting ready for errands yesterday.

It has grown out quite a bit since last June.

The blue flower cardigan is from Target, the

jewelry Cato and the crystal watch is QVC.

I encourage all of you to have your own photo session

in a mirror. You can't help but laugh at yourself...:0!

Here is my new shortened bob haircut last June.

Getting 10 inches cut off was a huge deal for me.

Should I go back to this length or keep letting it grow?

I'm stumped since I do like it with both styles.

I use either Dove or Pantene shampoos. Love them!

The new style was fun and cooler for the summer.

I use Paul Mitchell's Smoothing Serum.

It smells fresh and really gives thickness and body.

By September of 10' it was starting to grow out already.

I'm wearing my CK gray cords from Sams Club.
I'm not too picky where I buy my clothes.
It's fun to shop again after my weight loss.

Popping Up Pillows

Hello Everyone!

Aren't acccent pillows fun to add to a room?

They are one of my favorite home decor' items.

I'm always on the lookout for a new one.

Join me for a pillow parade!

The master bedroom has a mixture of blues and browns.

The guest room is reds and golds.
A bench in the guest room holds more pillows.
Even a tiny leopard one.
The formal living room sofa holds a nice grouping.
I find pillows at many stores like Kirklands and Marshalls.
The bees and fleur de lis are two of my favorites.
The pillows on the new sofa in the family room.
The damask came with the sofa and loveseat.
I'll be taking in a cushion to Ashley to compare.
Thank you very much for all of your suggestions on the
orange color change. I'll let you know what happens.

The damask chair has a sage green mixed in it.
I added this color to make it pop.
My latest pillow find is from Marshalls.
An envelope pillow that matches the drapes in the office.
The bonus room is done in shades of blue.
I went with a circle theme on the pillows.

What a huge variety of styles to chose from!
Anyone can find a pillow to display.
Now I want a bench like this to display more pillows.
Precious huh?
The *Nest* and bird pillows from Pottery Barn.
So pretty!
Numbered and burlap pillows are all the rage.
I need to find a few soon. Love them!
Don't forget colorful outdoor pillows.
Spring is on the way!

Staying On Track

Hello Everyone!

I believe most us made a healthy resolution for 2011.

Are you on track with your goals? I hope you are!

Join me and I'll give you an update on mine

and a delicious and healthy dinner recipe too.

Here are the ingredients for turkey meatloaf.

1 pound ground turkey, bread crumbs, 1 can tomato sauce

1/2 small chopped onion, 1 egg, garlic powder, S/P.

Add your ingredients to a bowl.

Add about half the can of tomato sauce and save the rest to top it.

Mix the turkey, sauce, egg, S/P, garlic powder, onion and crumbs.

No need to measure the bread crumbs just keep adding until

you have a firm loaf for the pan. You'll know when it's ready.

I did not measure the S/P or the garlic powder. It's just to taste.

Form a loaf and top with the remaining tomato sace.
Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
I made baby peas with a pat of butter for a side.
Here is the finished dinner with a baked potato.
A delicious and satisfying meal. I hope you try it.

We've been loading up on healthy foods at the grocery.
I had gained a few pounds during the holidays but they
are now gone after I adjusted my habits back to healthy.
I'm sitting at exactly 48 pounds down from my start weight.
I'm going to try as hard as I can to lose this final 10 pounds.

Do you eat these super foods on a regular basis?
They are all very healthy choices and delicious.
I never enjoyed apples or blueberries before.
After reading the benefits I'm hooked for life.
I have been wanting to try making *green smoothies*.
Do any of you drink them? How do they taste?
Exercise has been the one thing that I just have not
had my groove going on lately. The cold weather...
Blah, blah, blah no more excuses.
I'm power walking and bowflexing regularly again.
What is your exercise routine?
Just reading this list really motivates me.
Less stress and sleeping better sounds great to me!

A Moth To A Flame

Hello Everyone!

The new furniture is here! It actually arrived a week ago

but it has taken me this long to get some decent photos.

I sure hope you like how it turned out. It has been quite a

surprise since what I ordered was gold and this looks orange.

I have yet to figure out why? Does anyone know? I've heard

of taking a paint sample home to see how it reacts in your

room but never furniture. Or maybe I'm the only one

who did not know to do this beforehand. Needless to say

it has been an adjustment and since I purchased it with

no refunds, well you get the picture. Yikes. Hello orange.

I have a feeling when we move it will look different again.

It's from Ashley Furniture and is called the Burnham.

I have visions of a better floorplan in our next home.
I'll take you house hunting in about 7-8 months. Yay!
I decided to embrace the orange and found a plaque.
They are both from Cato. I always find something there.

The coffee table is very heavy and well made.
I bought the rug at Marshalls.
The end table matches the coffee table.
Most of the accessories came from Ross.
Notice the curved wood detail on the furniture.
This is the matching chair from Ashley.
It is a relaxing spot to curl up with a book.
I'm still searching for the right throw.
The tv armoire is the reason the room must stay this layout.
That is one piece I do plan to replace when we move.
The details are lovely on the carved wood tables.
Here is the Ashley Burham set shown on the website.
Hopefully you can see the difference and see the gold color.
It was also gold when I saw it in person in the showroom.
I guess it's something about our home and the lighting.
If you have any other ideas why it changed color let me know.
I would really appreciate it.
My all time favorite *orange* guy in the entire world.
Mr Chestnut waiting for his milk treat. Like he needs it...:)
